    Hello,

i wanna ask tht whether it is possible to open a class diagram generated by My Eclipse (*.umr) in Rational Rose since both follow the UML design!
please assist me in doing so..

    Thanks in advance.

Writing UML does not mean anything from the tools point of view. It’s the same as you would say “I am writing English – can Word open that?”

The OMG standard for saving UML models is XMI. There is a plugin for Rational Rose (Unisys). I am not sure if you could import a XMI file with that … On the other hand you have to export MyEclipseUML to XMI.

But there is always another problem: not each tool implements XMI support in the same way …. and I am not sure whether the graphical presentation is part of the XMI spec.

kwahid, jhm is absolutely correct on all accounts. And AFAIKT there is no common agreement on how to represent graphical elements in XMI, so it tends to be a model-only transfer. For some folks that works (just DnD the items from the model (outline) back into the diagram) but for others that expect all the tools to play nice, it’s a huge let down.

The EMF people divide the model from the visualisation. Indeed there are two files: one XMI file and one notation file referencing the XMI file. But its pretty that they dont support multiple notation files … So you could hold them as “repository” and have mutliple views on your model. GMF-Editors delete the element from the model AND the notation. When having multiple views you have do distinguish here … (Delete vs. Delete from Model)
