I am nagivating to the WSDL file on the server by typing in the URL for the WSDL
and then clicking on GO. When I do this, I am getting an excpetion that tells
me the Web Service Explorer is closing the network socket connect before it is time.

What URL are you using to access the WS? You mean when you try and get it to cough up the WSDL, it just dies with this error?

I would check your server log, my guess is that it’s not writing anything back, because it’s actually throwing an exception on the server side and dying.

What I am typing in the URL for the WSDL is

    http://<machinename on network>:8080/MyWebService/WebServiceBean?WSDL

okay, I find the error……..host name was incorrect……..
