I know there is a Sourceforge project call Columns for Eclipse. And it’s *ok*. I can do column replacements copies, pastes, etc.

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/columns4eclipse/

However, it’s a bit awkward to use and it only works in the Java editor (not any of the others). Why awkward? Because to see the columns selected you need to look in preview window – not at the actual selection. This impacts basically every other operation (like search n replace, etc).

Any chance you guys might be able to implement something that looks and works more like what’s in IDEA by any chance? Or at least that the current project and extend it to the other ME editors?

    Thanks…

Hmm… I don’t know that management would OK something like this (cost/ROI all that stuff when you consider the bug reports, supporting it, feature enhancements and how much all that costs in both developer salary and cost as far as trading off another feature in lui of this).

Is the team that works on the columns4eclipse open to suggestions and changing how it behaves?

    Hi Riyad,

Good question.. I’ll ask them… I might have a crack at the source at least to see if there’s any way to make it work with the other ME editors.. at least then it might be more useful.. across the editors.

    Thanks anyway!
