I’m trying to use the preference export/import facility to replicate preferences from one workspace to another, new workspace. But one of the preference changes is not showing after import.
This is what I’m doing.
In workspace 1, change the default preference values for three preferences in three different plugins (ClearCase, JLint, MyEclipse Validators). I’m disabling the JSP Validator per another posting about a memory leak.
Export the preferences.
Switch workspaces and select a new directory. The workbench restarts.
Import the preferences.
Two of the three preferences (in a ClearCase plugin and a JLint plugin) show the expected value. The MyEclipse Validator does not show the JSP Validator unchecked in the “The selected validators will run when validation is performed” list box.
I’m running Eclipse 3.0.0 on XP SP1 with a clean install of today’s manual install download. Build ID 200408201200-3.8.1+QF20040825
I want to include the exported preferences but it’s 200+ lines long. I don’t see a way to upload an attachment in the posting page. If I don’t see it elsewhere, I’ll reply with the file contents quoted.

The validation settings won’t survive export / import because they are saved
as persistent properties on the workspace root, not as standard preferences.
The bug we fixed was to allow you to turn them off, restart the workbench,
and still have them be off. That is fixed. The storage of these particular
prefs in such a non-standard way is a tragic IBM design decision, not a but.
It would be an enhancement to save them as standard preferences, at this
point.Sorry about that, but we have noted the enhancement and will look at addressing it in the future.
