I have the latest release of Crystal Reports for Eclipse.

From the DBBrowser, I can DRAG a Table — But Dropping is prevented.

    Please advise.

In your other posts you mentioned you could not drop the table into the DATA tab. Could you be a little more precise; I’m not sure what Data Tab you are referring to.
If you are talking about a view contributed by Crystal Reports, then dragging from the DB Browser into a CR view will obviously not work as CR will not recognize a MyEclipse table object.

FYI: Tables and Views may only be DnDed onto MyEclipse ER Diagrams.

Thank you for your response. I’m getting increasingly frustrated. All that I want to do is add tables to an existing eport from a set of tables that are viewable in the DBrowser. T

The existing report displays one table when I click the Data tab in Crystal.

In a current Crystal Report File, when I click on the Data Tab in Crystal, the heading in the window tells me to Drag and Drop a Table. I try to drag a table from DBBrowser but that functionality is not working. When I right click a table in DBBrowser, there is no context menu to add a table to a report.

I haven’t been able to create any ER Diagram. I’ve been searching the Help documents in MyEclipse on this subject, and nothing seems to help. There is an ERDiagram Overview view but that hasn’t helped to do anything.

Please don’t drop me from this mail thread.

    rdepew,
I believe the problem here is that you are confusing MyEclipse functionality with Crystal Reports functionality. We do not ship, bundle or support Crystal Reports which is what you are trying to use to build these reports with (it sounds like). Double check that you are referring to the right documentation (theirs) and possibly sync up with their support team to get help generating your report or using their tools.

If I had used Crystal reports before and could help, I would certainly try, but I just don’t know the tool.

The problem is that the DB-Browser from MyEclipse doesn’t work with Crystal Reports. You have to use the Database Explorer from the Web Tools Platform Project and it will work like a charm. I had the same problem earlier.

It’s really a shame that I had to de-install MyEclipse to get this working, tough. :-/

Can you give us some details on what “doesn’t work” with Crystal Reports? We have some of the most flexible DB tooling around and can hook up to any type of database. Is it a DB problem, or a “Crystal Reports is built on top of the old WTP database tools” (which are now deprecated) problem?

This is easy, really 😉 Just try it out!

Usually you use the WTP Database Explorer to connect to a database. When you are connected you open it and can DRAG-AND-DROP tables to a Report (when you design a report you use this as your input). This is obviously not possible when using the, in my opinion superior, DB Browser. I’m not the only one who had this problem and it took me a while to figure out that the Database Explorer and the DB Browser are definitely different. Similar “bug reports” can be found in the Crystal reports forum and the guys there also don’t have a clue what’s wrong. Probably you should talk to them 😉

By changing the output when the Droptarget is Crystal reports you could be easily compatible and I wouldn’t have to install the WTP too.

I’m also having the same problem. The difficulty us that the Crystal reports plugin depends on the WTP database tool to allow users to specify connections and drag and drop tables onto a report. The MyEclipse plugin replaces the WTP database explorer with the DB Browser but doesn’t provide all the same functionality (ie. it cant be used to setup report data sources and queries in Crystal).
I’d prefer it if MyEclipse didn’t ever disable existing ecilpse functionality, if it has to it would be nice if it was a drop in replacement.
Unfortunately there seems to be a choice at the moment to use MyEclipse or Crystal reports plugins and this is really likely to hurt you in the enterprise space (especially while you’re trying to lure WebSphere developers).
Any workaround to this problem would be appreciated. Perhaps a way to re-enable the WTP Database browser ?

    Thanks,
    Cameron

    Cameron,
We certainly understand that some folks need both, ME and WTP enabled. You can go to Window > Prefs > General > Capabilities and click the Advanced Button. From there you can re-enable the WTP functionality that is currently hidden to get it back.

Thanks, it’s all working now, I never would have found that option.
Once re-enabled I didn’t have any database templates so I added the DTP update site (
http://download.eclipse.org/datatools/updates) and updated to the latest version. I can now add data sources to Crystal Reports from the “Data Source Explorer” view.
