I would like to be able to either specify the default date format for querry results, or have it default to the widest format for the given database. I know that in some databases a date is just a date while in others it’s a date and a time. But the result table just displays the date portion.

What database you use ? MyEclipse haven’t feature that specify date format, but you can probably set this in database server.
