R. John ShieldsMemberI have a few suggestions for enhancements to the new database functionality in MyEclipseIDE. But, first of all, thanks to the team for a great release in 3.8GA and for adding the functionality in the DB Explorer.
Enhancements that would make my life easier (and if it helps somebody else… great! 😉 ).
1) Filters on the DBBrowser at the Table and Schema level. Most of the databases I work on are large and I usually only work with a small subset of the schemas and tables. Perhaps even a “favorites” or “working set” of tables would be useful, configurable by connection.
2) A more robust “Preview” window where you could specify filters and edit records in place (with a “form view” as well). Color-coding of columns that are indexed and/or foreign keys in the “Preview” window would be useful too.
3) Viewing DB Vendor Specific items (Oracle Schemas, Sequences, Indexes, etc)
4) Integration with Torque. My interest in this is that I would like to be able to “port” DDL from one DB to another. I typically work with Oracle DBs on a server, but would LOVE the ability to create the same DB in a more lightweight database (HSQLDB for example). But, as I’m sure you know, subtle differences in DDL and datatypes make this a real pain.
5) Export any resultset to a DBUnit format (XML and XLS) and be able to load a DBUnit file(s) as well.
6) Graphical data model editor (or at least a viewer).
7) A way to quickly navigate the relationships of a database from the Preview window. If the column is a foreign key, it would be nice to “hyperlink” to that record. And, some way to navigate to dependent records as well (give the user a choice which related table to navigate to, then show all the records related to the parent/”starting point”).
8) Along the same lines, I typically need to export an “object graph”, so it would be great to be able to navigate around the database, and mark records to be exported through DBUnit.
Hmm… I suppose this is enough for now. 😉

R. John ShieldsMemberGreat! I’ll be waiting to see what appears on the roadmap! (By the way… it looks a little out of date at the moment).
