atomz4peaceParticipantHi,
If we have 2016CI, is there any difference between that and 2017 CI? Do we need to upgrade each year or is everything rolled in?
Thank you
support-swapnaModeratoratomz,
MyEclipse 2016 is based on Eclipse Mars and MyEclipse 2017 is based on Eclipse Neon. MyEclipse 2017 benefits from new Neon capabilities like improved startup performance, visual enhancements which include a full screen mode and better support for High DPI displays, and editors. MyEclipse 2017 also brings you a number of new features from Angular 2 and improved TypeScript, to a more intelligent, capable Terminal and Gradle integration.
With every major release, we refresh software integrations across the product and update to newer versions of third party tooling on which MyEclipse is built, like m2e, BIRT, Webtools, eGit, STS, etc.
For major releases, the version of the Eclipse platform that underpins MyEclipse is usually different from the previous major release. For example, upgrading from MyEclipse 2016 to MyEclipse 2017. For this reason, you should install a new major release as a fresh installation. This can be done with the on-line or off-line installer. You do not need to uninstall the previous release to install a new release of MyEclipse – just install to a different location (usually, the default location is adequate).
For minor releases within the same Eclipse platform, example MyEclipse 2016 CI 4 to MyEclipse 2016 CI 7, you can update from within the product. Updates are automatically checked for and you will see a pop up alerting you about the available updates. Alternatively, you can also click Help in the main menu bar and select “Check for Updates”.
It is recommended to stay updated on the product to take advantage of the newer features and several enhancements and fixes we make to the product.
Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any questions.
