benjcMemberI presume the development is ongoing — and Thanksgiving cut into the timeline — but when is the M5 release planned for Eclipse?
Also, in it I hope the XML editor has been fixed, and … in M4 I can only run Tomcat 4 once, and then if I want to restart it, I need to restart all of Eclipse, otherwise it hangs and opens up the URL.class file for editing … this didn’t happen in M3 and is really annoying as you can imagine.
I look forward to the next release.

benjcMemberAny word on M5 yet? There is a need for the update as M4 on OSX has bugs and I’d like to move to M5.
Scott AndersonParticipantTrust me, we’re working as fast as we can. 🙂 Once 2.7 is released this week, everyone will be focused on getting 3.7 on M5 out the door. It’ll be next week though because M5 has some nasty API breaks in it that will require recoding some stuff.

Stephen McConnellMemberI understand your program slippage…. And this is a dig against the Eclipse team…. Isn’t OO programing and proper “platform API” Interface development supposed to foster situations where there “aren’t any nast API breaks!!!”….? ❓
Scott AndersonParticipantStephen,
Yes, that should really be the case. However, backward compatibility can only be accomplished within the original system use cases and change cases. Given what the Eclipse team is trying to accomplish with version 3.0, (rich client platform, dyanmic plugin updates, etc) it’s not really unexpected that some breakage occurred. Apparently, they held it all back and did it in one release (M5) rather than sprinkling breaking changes throughout each M-build, and for that we are greatful.
In any case, have no fear that we’ll work through them and get everything ship shape on the Mbuilds again. However, given that M6 is scheduled for 12/16, we might just do our M5 work and then test on M6 and release for that platform in order to catch back up. 🙂
