Is it just me, or is the Eclipse Update really really slow? I thought I’d upgrade to 3.0.1 before upgrading MyEclipse 3.8.2 — but it’s been taking all day and it’s still not done.

That’s probably because Eclipse updates are served off the main site, not one of the mirrors. The main Eclipse.org site is heavily overloaded, most of the time. The foundation will be tranitioning to a new provider, but not until the end of the year timeframe.

Not only is it slow (their main update site) but, upon completion I get errors! And it doesn’t work! On a CLEAN 3.0 install, without myEclipse, or anything else.

Scott, how about bundling a ready to use integrated 3.0.1 and 3.8.2 over here. One download, one unzip? (I was a bout to purchase myEclipse today, and thought ‘lemme get 3.0.1 first…alas.)

    Nat,

We’re kicking that around. The big problem with it would be increasing the download size by 80MB which would begin to kill us on bandwidth and download times. Truthfully, it’s much faster to simply download Eclipse from one of the mirrors when you want to upgrade to a new version rather than use the update from the main site. Lots of the mirrors are quite fast.

I’m new to MyEclipse and already paid for my membership but can’t get the download. I do have eclipse from the regular site. I need the MyEclipse with the J2EE development to begin my work.

    Sebastian,
Why can’t you “get it”? You don’t know where to go? (http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-10.html) or the download doesn’t work?
