The following is weirding me out, I am starting to suspect some deeper bugs within the software stack.

I would like to use the Charting functions of Dojo, which means including Dojox files. Now I understand that Dojo comes within SPRING-JS and SPRING-JS_RESOURCES. Dojox is not included in the version of SPRING-JS that comes with ME4S 10, so I added the Spring WEBFLOW 2.3 classes to the top of my Classpath, including the SPRING-JS and SPRING-JS_RESOURCES.

    But even then

    <script type=”text/javascript”>dojo.require(“dojox.charting.widget.Chart2D”);</script>
    <script type=”text/javascript”>dojo.require(“dojox.charting.themes.Claro”);</script>

gives the dojox files not being found – I will paste the google developer result below.

If it is finding an old version of SPRING-JS-RESOURCES that would explain why it cant find dojox files as they were not included until recently.

Eventually I went through and removed all the SPRING-JS-RESOURCES and SPRING-JS jar from my class path (then physically deleting them), expecting the following to then also fail

    <script type=”text/javascript”>dojo.require(“dijit.layout.ContentPane”);</script>
    <script type=”text/javascript”>dojo.require(“dijit.layout.TabContainer”);</script>

but it does not. I will paste the class path below as well.

So somehow ME4S is finding dojo and dijit files without SPRING-JS in the class path?

Maybe it is a typo somewhere, but I have been working on this for 2 days and I cant see it. Even a suggestion on debug approach would be helpful as I have totally run out of ideas.

    Thanks

    Hi P0rridge,

Please see my response to this post:
    http://myeclipseide.com/PNphpBB2-viewtopic-t-28718-highlight-springjs.html

It looks like the “Spring MVC 3 Libraries” classpath container referenced in that post is on your classpath. I don’t think there is any way to modify the container, so you’ll need to remove it from the build path and manually add the jars you need.

    Cindy,

Thanks for that, but unfortunately it has not helped.

I am trying a fresh ME4S workspace to see if that helps.

In the mean time, you have underlined my level of confusion. I thought that by including SPRING-JS-2.3 and SPRING-JS-RESOURCES-2.3 in the class path ahead of “Spring MVC 3 Libraries” would mean that these versions would be used first – meaning the SPRING-JS version in Spring MVC 3 Libraries would be ignored.

    Have I got the wrong?

    Cindy,

    Steps I have taken:

    – Create a new workspace and used CRUD scoffolding in new project
    – Removed the default Spring MVC library and replace with the individual files, except for SPRING-JS-2.07
    – Added into class path the spring webflow 2.3 classes, including the 2 Spring-JS classes

Got the same result – it finds Dojo and Dojit, but not Dojox

    – removed the 2 Spring-JS classes. Without Spring-JS it should not be finding dojo, right?

Got the same result – it finds Dojo and Dojit, but not Dojox!

So what de-bug options do I have? Can you print out somehow what the resource servlet is seeing? Would that be some loop over the files in /resource/?

Anything else I could try? I will prob be wrong, but I do suspect a bug something in the stack.

Have you tried just using Tomcat? After you’ve deployed to the integrated Tomcat, right-click on your project in the Servers tab and select “Browse Deployment Location”. Then you can find all libraries deployed with your project under the WEB-INF/lib directory. Maybe you can find a clue in there?

I was able to perform these steps (in the name of debugging):
    1. Create a Maven-enabled web project (check maven box on the New Web Project wizard).
    2. Scaffold MVC in that project.
    3. Open the POM.
    4. Change the org.springframework.webflow.version property to 2.3.0.RELEASE instead of 2.0.7.RELEASE.
    5. Add the following lines to main.jsp after the lines that includes dojo.parser.

    <script type=”text/javascript”>dojo.require(“dojox.charting.widget.Chart2D”);</script>
    <script type=”text/javascript”>dojo.require(“dojox.charting.themes.Claro”);</script>

Then I ran the app without error. Now, I didn’t use the chart so maybe I got away with thinking all was well.

Keep in mind that the resource servlet is only loading the js files that are specified like this:

    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”${pageContext.request.contextPath}/resources/spring/Spring.js”></script>

It’s the “/resources” in the name that clues the resource servlet to load the file. That prefix is specified in web.xml. When you are using dojo.require, you are using the dojo toolkit to load files.

    Cindy,

First, the tip on looking at the Tomcat classes is of great help, many thanks. The old version of SPRING-JS-RESOURCES was there, even though not in the Eclipse build path. Fixed that by changing the option Project->properties->MyEclipse->Deployment Assemply->Use deployment…

q1) What is this option? What would have caused this problem? How can I prevent in future?

Something else is now wrong. While the file is found am getting failed loading

/C029/resources/dojo/../dojox/charting/widget/Chart2D.js with error: TypeError: Object function (){this._construct(arguments);} has no method 'split'
    dojo._loadUriAndCheck dojo.js:16

Secondly, the maven option – what you describe is exactly what I would expect. But of course it does not work for me.

I get missing jar files – about 5
    org.springframework.security jar files e.g.
    org.springframework.security.ldap-3.0.5.RELEASE

show as missing in the jar build path. They are not in the corresponding .m2 directory. I un-installed ME4S, and deleted .m2, which force .me to be rebuilt on re-install, but it has the same problem.

q2) how do I fix this?

I dont know why they bother with water-boarding and sleep deprivation – they should force suspects to code Spring Framework. Maybe it is too cruel and unusual?

q1) Why are classes not being exported to Tomcat when they are in Project->Properties->Classpath?

I see warnings of the form “Classpath entry ….. will not be exported…..”

    This looks like an answer
    http://fstyle.de/hp_fstyle/wordpress/2008/06/18/classpath-entry-will-not-be-exported-or-published/

but the solution described involves setting variable I cant see in my UI

So, Cindy, what to do? (I am adopting a zero warnings policy NOW!)

q2) I ran the build of the .m2 again, only this time different classes were missing. Mr Google finally gave me “solution” when .jar is missing in a Maven project

    a) find the dirs of the missing jars in .m2 and delete the .lastUpdated file
    b) from Project->Maven4MyEclipse->Update dependencies

This will force an another attempt to load the file. Now looks good.

It looks like the maven plugin downloads the check sum value of each jar but does not use it, meaning downloads fail silently. Ouch.

This is not the answer you’re looking for but I believe that warning is benign.

Maven is not fun to deal with sometimes but you hit on it, you can also just delete the problematic subdirectory under .m2 and just touch the pom file and it will re-attempt to pull down dependencies. Eventually once you get all of the dependencies loaded, it is nice because the project contains no libraries and you have fine grained control over your dependencies.

I personally would prefer waterboarding, because if you understand that it won’t kill you and realize it’ll be over in a short period of time, you can deal with it. Coding with the latest and greatest technologies may kill you or at least make you insane.

Cindy, it has done the later for sure, it is confident of achieving the former.

For the record, the problem of jar files being in the class path and not deployed to the tomcat was solved via

    project right click-> properties->MyEclipse->Deployment assembly->deselect “use deployment assembly….”->save

then repeat to switch it back on. This seems to force a fresh, complete jar file deployment to Tomcat.

I found this solution using the try everything randomly method – give enough monkeys enough time and one of them will type a Shakespeare sonnet using this approach.
