I had been using the m4 release and was experimenting with the uml and struts diagramer.

Today, I saw that the GA release was published to the web site, so I downloaded the latest version. I looked for instructions and saw that there is not an upgrade path, so I uninstalled the m4 release, and then installed the GA release.

I didn’t see the note to run with -clean at first, and I started it up and received an error message:

    Could not restore workbench layout.

    Reason: Problems occurred restoring workbench.

    Unable to restore perspective: Workspace – MyEclipse UML Perspective. Internal error activating an Editor. null argument;

I closed the workbench and looked at the release notes. I saw the note about running with -clean, and did that. I got the same error message.

I closed workbench and tried starting it again, and I still get the same error messages.

    My configuration is the following:

Windows XP Pro Service Pack 1
    Eclipse 3.1 (build I20050627-1435 )
    JDK 1.5.0_04
    vmargs -Xmx750M

I have a MyEclipse menu, but under [Window][Preferences] there is no longer a myEclipse category for configuration.

Can you please help me get MyEclipse working?

    Thank you.

    Bob,

Sorry that this is causing you a problem. The course to get you running the fastest is to install a fresh version of Eclipse 3.1 in a new location and then install 4.0GA such that it points to it. Once you’ve installed in a parallel location, simply open your existing workspace.

There really was no way to upgrade properly from M3 to GA due to the problems detailed in this thread:

Re-installing eclipse and my-eclipse solved the problem.

This information should be in the release notes and on the download page. I got the newsletter yesterday, and it didn’t say anything about migrating from old versions to the latest other than running -clean.

    Perhaps this was oversight.

    Bob,

Very good point. I’ve updated the announcement in the MyEclipse Announcements forum to include this additional information.
