    Dario,
If you go to Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration, and expand the root, then expand all the extension directories… how many products (and what are they) do you have installed?

I haven’t seen this common-logging problem before on Linux when you have MyEclipse installed, infact we do a lot of testing on Linux so I’m not sure what is going on here besides a standard installation problem.

Also are you using the Ubuntu build of Eclipse from synaptic, or are you using a download from eclipse.org?

Where did you install it? Into a global location like /usr/local or under your home dir?

    #269800 Reply

    Riyad,

when I look to the extension directories I find, besides MyEclipse that I manually install under /opt/MyEclipse-5.1.1GA:
    /usr/local/lib/eclipse and
    /usr/lib/eclipse
    Eclipse Project SDK
    Eclipse Java Development Tools
    Eclipse JDT Plug-in Developer Resources
    Eclipse PDE Plug-in Developer Resources
    Eclipse Platform
    Eclipse RCP
    Eclipse Platform Plug-in Developer Resources
    Eclipse RCP Plug-in Developer Resources
    Eclipse Plug-in Development Environment

That corresponds to a standard install done via Synaptic of the eclipse package and its dependencies.

In a previous installation I installed the eclipse VE plugin before installing MyEclipse as an extension so before posting I removed everything and reinstalled only eclipse and MyEclipse (I will install VE plugin later as you recommend). In both cases the help contents pops out if I disable MyEclipse extension and are not available anymore if I enable it.

    Dario,
I believe the problem is that you are using the Ubuntu build of Eclipse and not the one from eclipse.org.

Unfortunately, while they should be identical, there are incompatabilities between MyEclipse and that build from Ubuntu. What we support and build on is the build of Eclipse from the eclipse.org site.

You could quickly test this by grabbing Eclipse 3.2.2 SDK from Eclipse.org (don’t grab the 3.3 milestones) and unzip it under your home dir, run it, and add the MyEclipse dir as an extension, then restart and open your existing workspace and you should be all set.

    Riyad,

thank you. I followed your suggestion and now everything works as expected.

I think I should open a bug on launchpad, what do you think?

    Thanks again,
    Dario

    Dario,
Sure, I wonder if they would be able to figure out what is going on?
