bijurkParticipantOur Serena PVCS plugin works only for 3.5.0 version of eclipse.
So current 8.6 version will not work with that plugin.
Is there a link from where I can download the version of myEclipse that uses eclipse 3.5.0 ?
I mean I need to downgrade from 8.6 to 8.5 (I guess).Thanks,
Biju
support-joyMemberBiju,
I am afraid ME 8.5 and 8.6 are based on Eclipse 3.5.2 classic. Please look for a relevant PVCS plugin which is compatible to Eclipse 3.5.2.
Brian FernandesModeratorBiju,
An option would be for you to install MyEclipse using the archived update site. Here is an FAQ describing how this can be achieved: https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/installation-install-myeclipse-using-archived-update-site/&highlight=
Instead of installing Eclipse 3.5.2 as recommended, go ahead and install Eclipse 3.5.0. This is not a recommended installation combination as 8.6 has been tested exclusively with 3.5.2, but it should work.Hope this helps.
bijurkParticipantUnfortunately, PVCS does not have any plugin for 3.5.2 version of Eclipse and the next plugin they will have support for might very well by out-of-sync with what myEclipse may come out with for in another GA. If this happens, unfortunately, the next logical step for us will be abandon myEclipse as we have too much invested in PVCS,
As of now, based on your suggestion, I will be following these steps:
1. Download Eclipse 3.5.0 from http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/eclipse-classic-350/galileor
2. Go to Start > Eclipse > Select Help > Software Updates > Available Software Tab > Add Site > Enter this URL http://downloads.myeclipseide.com/downloads/products/eworkbench/galileo/enterprise-stable
3. From there you just “Next” your way through the wizard and MyEclipse will be installed for you. Please correct me if I missed any step or am doing anything wrong.
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately it isn’t viable for us to have multiple installers for each version of Eclipse and we typically build installers with the latest stable version of Eclipse available at the time of release; however, as I mentioned earlier, our software should still be compatible with Eclipse 3.x, which is why the archived update site technique should work. Our earliest release for 3.5 was based on 3.5.1 (MyEclipse 8).

Brian FernandesModeratorBiju,
From your notes here, it is evident that we do have dependencies on plugins that are part of both Eclipse 3.5.1 and Eclipse 3.5.2. You would need a build that was specifically exported against Eclipse 3.5.0 and unfortunately we never had a GA release with that version – the earliest GA release we have (8.0) is based on Eclipse 3.5.1 – and I could provide an archived update site for that version if PVCS will work with it.
I apologize for wasting your time with this approach, I had only taken MyEclipse core into account, not some of our third party frameworks and plugins. I’m afraid I cannot offer any other suggestions at this time. If it helps, MyEclipse 9.0M1 will be based on Eclipse 3.6.0, MyEclipse 9.0GA will most likely be based on Eclipse 3.6.1.
bijurkParticipantBrian:
Thanks for your help with this.
I was wondering how other shops are working this out with myEclipse when the other tool providers require specific versions of eclipse.
Unfortunately, we might need to step back from myEclipse and move to some other tool provider. Thanks,
Biju
Brian FernandesModeratorBiju,
To put this in perspective, MyEclipse is distributed primarily as an IDE – not a plugin or set of plugins. In other words, MyEclipse includes the base Eclipse distribution; typically you do not install MyEclipse on an existing version of Eclipse. If you want to do this, you can use the version of Eclipse that the MyEclipse build was based on, using either the update site directly, or our archived update site.
PVCS on the other hand is much smaller and is not an IDE – it is a set of plugins to be installed on an IDE. Since it does not include Eclipse, it can be more flexible in this department, though there are probably technical reasons due to which the current version of PVCS would not work on versions other than 3.5.0.
Most plugin providers will always have a release available that is compatible with the latest version of Eclipse available at that time or a flexible plugin that will work with all versions of a given Eclipse stream (3.4, 3.5, 3.6, etc.). In almost all cases, the problem isn’t that we don’t provide a version of MyEclipse for an older Eclipse release, but that we don’t provide a version of MyEclipse for a newer Eclipse release. For example, we don’t currently have a 3.6 version yet, but intend to release one this month.
Compatibility with 3rd party plugins is very important to MyEclipse and is an important aspect of each release. We are compatible with a very wide range of plugins, and you will find that most aren’t as rigid as PVCS or they have an update site which provides versions compatible with several Eclipse versions.
I appreciate your patience, thank you for trying MyEclipse.
atfosterMemberWe’ve had some success with serena’s rich integration. Contact me if you are still trying to get this working…

support-joyMemberatfoster,
Good to hear you had success with serena’s rich integration with MyEclipse. Can you please share your steps here to help other forum users?
Thank you.
atfosterMemberWe just went through an upgrade cycle for Serena8.3 and their mashup product and it will work fine. There were issues using an old c\program files\genuitec folder, just rename or delete it. Myeclipse 8.6.1 all-in-one install followed by the serena8.3 install went fine with the ‘Rich Integration’ using old and new serena servers installations. In the 2nd page of the serena install be sure to check the eclipse 3 ‘Rich Integration’ checkbox, it will then prompt you for the eclipse install, default is at c:\program files\genuitec\myeclipse-8.6
Good luck!
bijurkParticipantOne difference is that I have PVCS version 8.4.2. I will try this out and let you know.
Starting with uninstalling the existing versions of both PVCS and myEclipse…Thanks for sharing your steps…
bijurkParticipantWonderful, that is the perfect sequence of steps. And it worked.
Now I have MyEclipse 8.6.1 working with Serena PVCS 8.4.2.0 Build (811)Thanks very much for sharing your experience. You just made my day!
Have a wonderful one!Cheers,
