Can I import an XMI file created by another tool into MyEclipse UML? If so, how can I do it?

    Thanks,
    Deepak

    Deepak,
You can import any XMI file but it has to be XMI 1.1 compliant. It does not necessarily have to be create using MyEclipse. You can go to UML > Import XMI and import the file.

I dont see any UML > Import XMI option. I have MyEclipse installed as an Eclipse plug-in. Am I missing something?

    Deepak,
What OS are you working on? Also, do you have a standard or a pro subscription of ME?

    Deepak,
Im afraid that UML support is not available on OSX. Adding UML support for our Mac users is already on our TODO list.

UML1 is not supported. BUT UML2 is supported. I just created a model.

    Deepak,

Sorry for the delay, we’ve been pretty busy with 7.0 GA work. We are working on finalizing importing in the UML2 EA tool that will be in 7.0 GA release, you should be able to import UMR files from UML1 as well as XMI I believe and our plan is to have direct import support for RSA as well if you are coming from that tool.

Are you moving away from ArgoUML as your editor (I hope)?

Yes, the UML2 tooling is build ontop of the UML2 and GMF modeling frameworks. There will be an EA release of it in MyEclipse 7.0 for you guys to start working with and giving us feedback. There is no forward/reverse engineering in that release and some of the UI elements are a bit rough around the edges, but the platform is there.

You can take the UML modeling in RAD as an example of what would make me happy. 🙂

We are certainly including our RAD converts in the plans for UML2 support. We have some RSA importing in the works right now, I don’t think it will be in EA because there is still some polishing to do… but those users are in our hearts.
