kiosite2MemberHi,
I’ve been trying to install the latest release, but the installer hangs at the same spot every time. It happens right after the “Choose Link Folder” page; after pressing “Next” the next page never shows and the window will not even repaint itself anymore.
Setting LAX_DEBUG to 1 gives the following output, and there doesn’t seem to be any errors (other than a warning about using a remote X display, but I tried it from the console and the same thing happened).
Any ideas?

Riyad KallaMemberWhat output do you get for:
/opt/java/bin/java -version
from the console?
kiosite2MemberIt returns
java version “1.4.2_02”
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_02-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_02-b03, mixed mode)which is the version reported by the installer.
I also tried installing with Sun’s 1.3.1_04 and the same thing happened.

Riyad KallaMemberAre you running a 2.6 kernel? I’ve seen problems reported on IntelliJ’s site with people not being able to run the IDE with 2.6 kernels installed. Also is there anything from Rawhide on your machine that is really bleeding edge? (glibc libs, xfree, kernel, etc?)

If not, was it upgraded to its current version using the update manager? no

Number of plugins in the <eclipse>/plugins directory: 79
MyEclipse version: 3.7rc2
Eclipse JDK version: 1.4.2_02 (sun)

Sorry I didn’t send the system info earlier.
This is a stock rh9 install with redhat supplied patches applied up through about last november.
My glib and xfree86 versions (as reported by rpm) are
glib-1.2.10-10
glibc-2.3.2-27.9.7
XFree86-4.3.0-2.90.43I have nothing installed from rawhide.
I hope some of this extra info helps; I’d really like to get this working soon! 🙂

Riyad KallaMemberMichael,
Can you do me a favor and redownload the installer and try it again? We had a problem with 2 other people on RedHat (1 on Mandrake) that had very strange installer problems and it turned out to be a corrupt (truncated) installer download.Sorry for the trouble, but I’d like to rule out any mundane possibilities before we go off the deepend troubleshooting this. From the sounds of things, you have a very normal system install.
kiosite2MemberProblem solved!
I figured out what the problem was when I noticed that the “df” command also locked up hard on that machine. It turns out that there was a corrupt nfs mount (unrelated to the installation or tmp directories) causing df to lock up. The myeclipse installer was also locking up when it got to the point where it was checking the free disk space. Once I fixed the nfs problem, the myeclipse installation completed successfully.
(You might suggest to ZeroG that they change their installer to only query the free disk space on the needed drives to help avoid problems like this, though I guess it’s not that big a deal.)
Thanks, everyone, for your attempts to help. I really appreciate a responsive support team!
— Michael
Riyad KallaMemberMichael I’m glad its working, talk about an obscure problem!
I will point this out to the others so they (a) know and (b) can tell ZeroG. Thanks again for the followup.
