OK, I don’t normally think of myself as retarded but after several hours I’m ready to give up. I’ve done this many times in ME, and just the other day in eclipse 3.4 for someone else, but I CANNOT get subclipse to work in 7.0. In 7.0 RC2 it worked fine, but I’ve been unable to upgrade because of this. I can’t find anyone else complaining about it flat won’t install so I am at a loss.

Basically no matter what combination I choose of subclipse, subversive, ME, or ganymede servers I do not get the expected subv perspectives, and the Team context menu only has “apply patch”. The installs always seem to work flawlessly, just nothing ever shows up.

I read in another post someone was accusing Pulse of something similar. But I’m at a loss. So what’s different from RC 2 and HOW (EXACTLY PLEASE I’ve tried EVERY plausible combination) do I get to my subversion repositories in 7.0.

    Thanks

Yep, found that one. That was actually why I put “EXACTLY PLEASE” in capital letters. It has extreme detail about how to get to the update site. And then sais “see the attached screen shot” which is most decidedly NOT attached.

Still I think I can manage to click on packages OK. I do NOT believe these instructions are correct because the site, at least now, seems to only allow the pre-release code. Maybe that’s what you’re implying? The actual release doesn’t work with ME 7?

At any rate I’d found that post, followed the instructions and they were no help whatsoever. Please READ my post and PLEASE ANSWER my question.

Can you copy-paste your installation details here? From MyEclipse menu – you need to go to MyEclipse menu, click on MyEclipse – Installation Summary – [Installation Detail].

“see the attached screen shot” which is most decidedly NOT attached

If you notice in the post there is a screen shot of Add/Remove software, you need to select all the subversive software listed, along with the software where it says mandatory/required.

Basically no matter what combination I choose of subclipse, subversive, ME, or ganymede servers I do not get the expected subv perspectives, and the Team context menu only has “apply patch”. The installs always seem to work flawlessly, just nothing ever shows up.

Can you explain, what you have done to add subversion? If you can document what you have done step by step, it will help me reproduce the issue at my end.

ME 7 allows you to add external plugins, since SVN is avaliable as a collaboration tools from Eclipse 3.4, MyEclipse allows you to add it. I have re-installed SVN using the exact documented steps.

From MyEclipse menu go to Help – About MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench. Click on [Plug-in Details]. Sort on Plug-in Name and check if you have any subversive plugins registered? Can you send me a screenshot of the same? (Please use Post Reply instead of Quick Reply, this has the added feature of including attachments)

I don’t know why it doesn’t show up, but I assure you there is no attachment when it gets to my browser. I even brought up Internet Explorer, something I never do. The page renders the same. There are no errors, there simply isn’t any attachment, in line picture, or anything whatsoever of the sort.

This collaboration tools tab only has subversive NOT subclipse, but at this point I’ll take most anything, I don’t honestly remember the difference just that we decided subclipse was better. As I said before all the subversive stuff is tagged (Incubation). Which to me says it is not the real release but is the “stable-build”.

This is NOT what I want and I don’t see why I can’t just use:
    http://subclipse.tigris.org/update_1.4.x
That always works everywhere else, but not in ME 7. It DOES work in ME 7 milestone 2.

This matters because I really need something that WORKS, not something with a lot of cool new features that mostly work and they’d like help testing. But regardless, I did as you said and checked every single subversive box available. There are a total of 5.

At any rate I installed those five packages and here is the install summary you asked for:

Oh, and by the way, I had done this before, and unsurprisingly it still does not work.

Thank you for providing the udpate site for subclipse. Here is what you need to do –
    1. Click on Help – Software Updates – Add/Remove software.
    2. Click on [Add]
    3. Click on [Add Site]
    4. Provide the Name and URL(Subclipse update site) and click on [OK]
    5. This will add subclipse under Personal Sites
    6. Expand the node of subclipse, and select all the nodes. Click on [Install]

This will add subclipse to MyEclipse. To verify check the plugins as shown in the screenshot

OK, here I sit with my mouth hanging open. The reason I posted to this board is because that doesn’t work. I may not be an expert at writing eclipse plug-ins (actually I have no idea at all) but I can certainly click “GO” in a dialog box. The reason I opened the support question to begin with is because that doesn’t work!!!!!!!! What I had hoped for was some help figuring out why!

Can you please try to install the subclipse plug-in in your version of ME 7.0. If you do get the new perspectives and more choices in the TEAM context menu can you please assist me in figuring out why I do not.

If you do not get the new perspectives and TEAM menu choices can you please figure out what is broken in ME 7.0 and get it fixed.

PLEASE DO NOT give me instructions on how to install a plug-in. I know how to do that — HONEST. Subversion plug-ins: NEITHER subclipse nor subversive work in ME 7.0. They work fine in ME 7.0 Milestone 2.

PLEASE HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP

    hey ethutch,

I understand your frustration. My installation details are the same as yours. I have added SVN and subclipse, I can open SVN repository perspecive. I have subversive context menu added to Help. Team context menu shows – Apply Patch, Share Project, Share Projects.

From Myeclipse menu click on Windows – Customize perspecive. Choose Commands tab, check if you have SVN listed? If you have SVN listed, add it to commands.

If the above doesn’t work, try doing this (your jaw might open again… please bear with me) from Help – Sofware updates – Add/Remove programs, on the search box, type subclipse and add the subclipse – plugin listed.

If the above doesn’t work too(one last try), can you let me know what are the different plugins you have installed currently in your MyEclipse. There could be a conflict with a third party plugin with that of subclipse. Can you please check if you have any errors in your log file. <ME installlation directory>/common/logs?

Since you have mentioned that your plugins installs don’t show you any error, can you check if these subclipse/subversion plugins are listed in MyEclipse plugin-details?

OK, this is bizarre on a whole new level. I’ll try to make a long story short because it’s not interesting even to me. But it is spooky.

I tried uninstalling all the plugins, and installing subclise again etc etc etc. Nothing worked, just like before. SO, I went to get the logs you requested. Imagine my surprise when I didn’t have a \Program Files\My Eclipse 7.0 directory!! Then I went to the shortcut and did a properties on it. Turns out MyEclipse was installed in “Program Files\Pulse\MyEclipse 7.0”, which ominously didn’t have a common, not to mention common\logs directory!!!!

I really don’t remember this whole Pulse thing. I recall when I got 7.0 there were some motherhood and apple pie words that made it sound great so I said OK, whatever. Apparently that was a BAD idea.

Ultimately I deleted MyEclipse entirely. Then I also had to delete Pulse seperately. Once that was all gone, I redownloaded MyEclipse from the web site. Which btw, is now at 7.0.1. I believe what I had before was truly 7.0. This new package installs into “ProgramFiles\Genuitec\MyEclipse 7.0”. Which is rather different to say the least. It also did not install a new “Pulse” program group..

After all this now it all works just perfect. Clearly there was something tragically wrong with my original download of MyEclipse. Perhaps that’s why there’s a 7.0.1? I don’t know, but I can now access my repositories and am a happy camper.

Sorry we had such problems. It was your request for me to look in that common/logs file that finally tipped me off that the install was hopelessly corrupt.

Thanks for your patience and help.

Thanks for the briefing, I will let the dev team know about this. I’m glad that you are all set with subclipse.
