It is awful that I must install pde to make MyEclipse usable.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately the PDE contains some nice frameworks that we make use of for some of our functionality. If we’d removed the dependency initially, we wouldn’t have been able to deliver the commerical release as quickly or with as much functionality. It was a trade-off, like most thing in development, and we’re big believers on writing the minimal amount of code possible for the maximum impact. That said, there is already an enhancement request to remove this dependency, however.
