I’m running Eclipse 3.0.1, with JDK 1.4.2_07. It won’t let me install MyEclipse, saying to change the JDK version. What’s up? This does not seem like an good design decision. Furthermore, the “upgrade” path of installation insists on putting MyEclipse under “Program Files”, not where I want to put it. Is this really mandatory? Seems like another poor decision.

    What is “it”?

I am not following what you are having issue with here… the installer? Eclipse? The update site? Automatic upgrades? MyEclipse uninstall? Please clarify…

    Is this really mandatory?

No, of course not. Put it in C:\Recycle Bin if it fits your needs better 😉
