jzanoniMemberCan somebody tell me how to view a .js file using myeclipse, I keep getting the error “An error has occurred when creating the editor” even after installing eclipse 3.0.1 and the latest update 3.8.2 of myeclipse (this morning 27-9-2004). In the error-log I keep getting the following error lines. How can I fix this so I also can use the nice js feature described!!

Scott AndersonParticipantFirst, have you restarted Eclipse specfying the -clean option?
Second, can you please post all the information we request in the Posting Guidelines thread at the top of this forum? That will give us some context so that we can determine if this is an installation issue, a configuration problem, or a bug. Thanks.
jzanoniMemberHi Scott,
See below for the requested extra information. Furthermore I only just started to use eclipse as my default development environment, so until know I didn’t have the time to install al kinds of goody plugings and or other things which may ‘hurt’ the myeclipse environment. The only extra plugin I installed (until know and after I install myeclipse) is the oxygenxml editor (set) of SyncRO soft (try it, it is super!)
Any way, I hope we can find a solution for my javascript editor problemen, because for me it is one of the main reason for choosing myeclipse (even do it doesn’t seem to work yet, the description got me convinced, it is just the thing I need).
greetings
John Zanoni

no– Are any other external plugins installed?
Yes oxygenxml, but I installed this after myeclipse was installed and I already had the problem with the javascript files.– How many plugins in the <eclipse>/plugins directory are like org.eclipse.pde.*

Scott AndersonParticipantJohn,
Can you send us your javascript file (or any examples you have that cause the issue) for testing? I need to see if this is a bug, by testing on one of our installations, or simply an install / config issue. You can attach and send an example “problem child” to support@myeclipeide.com. If/when you do, please be sure to include the URL for this thread so we’ll know what it’s for. š
Scott AndersonParticipantJohn,
I did some research in the code and it looks like this could be triggered due to changes you made in your preference settings for quickdiff or annotation handling. Unfortunately, I can’t replicate the behavior on my install because I can’t run down exactly the preference causing the issue. Do you recall what settings you’ve changed from the defaults? Could you try creating a new workspace and opening an JS file in it? I think that will take care of the issue. Another workaround would be to delete the editor preference settings in the <workspace>/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.runtime/.settings directory. Anything with *editor* in it would be suspect.
jzanoniMemberHoi Scott,
Thank you for the fast response. I tryed the ”new workspace” solution, sadly whitout a successful result (still have to try the, āremove all settingsā option, do I like my settings as the are know and basically I can not see why this should cause the problem, still I will try it any way). For now, the (error)log after creating a new workspace, importing a simple javascript file (nothing fancy, some simple functions with some comment). Again I got the same error “An error has occurred when creating this editor”, I think the myeclipse javascript editor doesn’t like me :-(, the other editors of myeclipse seems to be working fine do.
greetings,
John

Scott AndersonParticipantJohn,
There’s always the “big hammer” of a new, parallel, Eclipse / MyEclipse installation. That will resolve the problem, but I’d sure like to find out the root cause in your configuration. However, it’s more important to me to get this working for you since we can easily work around the issue in the code in the next release.
jzanoniMemberHoi Scott,
I tried the other possible fix, removing the *editor* files from <workspace>\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.runtime\.settings. I stopped eclipse, removed the files and started eclipse with the -clean option (to be sure). Then I created a new file and typed the following:
function test(){
return true;
}function test2(){
}
Saved the file, closed the file, opened the file again (using: <context menu>Open With->My eclipse Javascript editor) and there it was again, the dialog with the message “unable to create part” followed by the text “An error has occurred when creating this editor”.
I am running out of options I think.
greetings,
john
