denz97ParticipantHello What’s the latest myeclipse production release?
thanks.
Scott AndersonParticipantDenz,
The truly latest production release is 2.6.4 on all platforms. We believe that 2.7 RC1 is stable on windows and will “do no harm”, but it has so many new features and hasn’t had the normal level of QA that would allow us to call it a production build yet. Depending on the feedback, the next release (12/22 timeframe) will either be RC2 or a GA (production) release.

denz97ParticipantHello Scott. Thanks for your reply. In the downloads area, is 3.6.4 only for Eclipse 3.0 which is still under stable build? If 3.0 comes into production will myeclipse 3.6.4 be the latest production and render 2.7 obsolete?
I apologize, this may be a stupid question…i’m just confused ’bout the different versions.
thanks.
markrehaMemberSo I guess 2.7 RC1 shows up as 2.6.100. Is that correct?
I also am stilling seeing a problem with JBoss 3.2.3 with Tomcat 5 where my source and step debugging are out of synchronization. I was told that this was going to be fixed in 2.7. Is this still an open issue with RC1?
Scott AndersonParticipantOk, two good questions.
Denz,
In the downloads area, is 3.6.4 only for Eclipse 3.0 which is still under stable build?
Correct. I wasn’t complete in my earlier reply. 3.6.4 is the stable build on the 3.0 M4 platform. However, it’s only as stable as 3.0 M4 😉
If 3.0 comes into production will myeclipse 3.6.4 be the latest production and render 2.7 obsolete?
It’s more “when” than “if”. 3.0 is scheduled to reach production status at the end of June 2004. At that point, instead of having the “release” build of 2.x and a “preview” build called 3.x we’ll have a “legacy” build called 2.x and a “release” build of 3.x. However, there will still be two builds with a major number tied to the major number of the Eclipse release.
Right now, I’d say if you’re doing production work use Eclipse 2.1.2 and our 2.x MyEclipse build. People really don’t seem to realize how much code is in motion in the 3.0 base. For something that is going into production at the end of Q2 next year, it’s REALLY early to start using it for something important. Kudos to the Eclipse team though for their ability to keep the quality as high as they have while rewriting everything. 🙂
Mark,
If 3.0 comes into production will myeclipse 3.6.4 be the latest production and render 2.7 obsolete?
That’s correct. We’re reserving 2.7.0 for the final release but we needed to increase the version number to make it obvious (to us at least) that it’s an RC build.
I also am stilling seeing a problem with JBoss 3.2.3 with Tomcat 5 where my source and step debugging are out of synchronization. I was told that this was going to be fixed in 2.7. Is this still an open issue with RC1?
I assume you’re speaking of JSP source level debugging. Tomcat 5 version 5.0.16 (I believe) has a bug in the way they generate the sourcemaps the debugger uses. We reported it to Apache and they’ve fixed it internally. Good news though, there’s a workaround available here:

denz97ParticipantThanks Scott.
markrehaMemberSo when will there be a version for OSX for 2.7RC1?
Riyad KallaMembermarkreha: IIRC it will be mid to late next week, along with the Linux release (Scott is that right?)
Scott AndersonParticipantActually, it’s a few days past that because we’re going to push it all through with the 3.7 M6-compliant build. Somewhere in the 12/22-12/23 timeframe.
