Antonio W. LagnadaMemberHi,
I am a Java Contractor and I currently have and continue to purchase MyEclipseIDE license yearly.
I have read the license agreement that comes with MyEclipseIDE and it’s sort of dry and I need some clarifications.
When I am working on a client company I usually install MyEclipseIDE and use it there.
The person has told me that I cannot use MyEclipseIDE here because they are not licensed for it. I have told them that I have my own license and they repeated that I cannot use this software in their business since they don’t have a license.
Could someone clarify this for me ASAP? From what I understand, I have a license for MyEclipseIDE therefore I can legally use it as long as I only am using it myself.
Thanks

Thank you for the continued support.

As a contractor I believe you can use any tool you want, but I will ask our subscriptions department to followup here.
In answering this question, we must draw a distinction between the letter of the MyEclipse license and the company policy where you do contract work.
Our license grants you the right use the Workbench without limitation to location or specification of equipment, as long as you don’t share or cause the license to be shared by anyone other than yourself. Since we also don’t have any claim on resulting work, your project could be deployed and used at any location. So, you should be perfectly fine per the letter of the MyEclipse license.
However, we have no idea about your company policy. Many companies are zealot about license compliance and must account for every license on their equipment. Your install would therefore constitute as a deviation.
A reasonable compromise might be to advise the company to purchase a separate license in their name. They will likely need such access to continue project maintenance.
Best Regards
MyEclipse Subscription Department
Antonio W. LagnadaMemberHi There,
Thanks for clarifying it! That’s the impression I got from reading the license.html ;-). I gotta tell you that I need MyEclipseIDE so much that If they don’t want me to use my license I will gladly pay them to purchase a license for me so I could continue using it.
Here’s my justification to the company for buying it. One company I pursuaded to purchase 4 license because they saw how fast and efficient my work was using MyEclipseIDE.
Given a contractor with a low rate of $40.1 developer going through a wiki or some instructional notes on how to download and install all the free plugins they need usually takes about 4 hours.
Cost: $40 x 4 = $160.
MyEclipseIDE license: $29
Anyone can do the math. It’s almost like a VISA (TM) priceless commercial.
Riyad KallaMemberHah, nfets we appreciate the kind words and are glad the prices leave the product in a very accessible position… that was our goal all along.
