skazeMemberIt appears that you use the OS ‘user id’ in your license missuse detection system without checking to see if the machine instance is the same.
As a J2EE solutions architect and was in process of evaluating MyEclipse professional for adoption by one of my development groups but have found that it will not let different userIds run the same eclipse instance despite being on the same machine. I expect the license to be on a per seat basis and as such expect it to work from all the machine accounts a user may have on their machine. For instance, on my laptop I have two accounts which i use, one for at work and one for at home, both which are NOT used concurrently.
What do you recommend to work around this problem?
Scott AndersonParticipantThe licensing is on a per seat basis. So, you can install on both your work and home machines for your personal use, for example. The problem you’ve reported could be that on some OS’s the trial license behaves a bit differently than it does when using a subscription key. For example, you can’t install as one user in Linux and run as another with the trial license, but you can with a subscription key. Also, with a trial license you can only run one instance of the workbench at a time on a given machine, but this is relaxed with a subscription key. Without more information about your exact situation I can’t be more precise as to what is causing the issue you’re experiencing. Suffice it to say that we’ll certainly be able to work through it if you’re not running a trial.
skazeMemberHi scott,
Thanks for the prompt reply, i am using a licensed version (uid: skaze) so will include a full report once i get back to work and encounter the repeated ‘myeclipse has detected a license sharing issue and will now only operate in a reduced functionality mode’ messages whenever i try and save an XML file 🙂
Regards,
John
Scott AndersonParticipantJohn,
This could also occur if you start up and shutdown multiple workspaces over and over. The workaround when it occurs is to shutdown all workspaces and restart. We’ve put in a fix for this, but it’s only available in the 4.1M1 (milestone 1 build) so it will be resolved with the shipment of MyEclipse 4.1 in December. Sorry for the inconvenience in the interim. If you’re not starting up a few workspaces and this is caused by something else, please let us know what it is so we can suggest a workaround / fix.

Scott AndersonParticipantNo problem. You can get your license key emailed to you if you select Member Services > Lost your membership access key in the navigation menu at the top of the page.
Hellmut AdolphsMemberI work constantly with multiple workspaces … what do I do to prevent the licensing giving me notice that there is multiple users using the license? it reports them from the same IP (its me in the same machine opening more than one instance of MyEclipse) how can I solve this?
thank you!
Scott AndersonParticipantHellmut,
Sorry for the inconvenience, but there was a bug in the management code prior to release 4.0.3. If you haven’t upgraded to MyEclipes 4.0.3, you’ll first need to do that. We made a correction in the licensing mechanism that will allow you to operate with two workspaces simultaneously.
