emmanuelMemberHello ME,
Using;
WinXP
Eclipse Version: 3.2.1.r321_v20060921-b_XVA-INSQSyMtx Build id: M20060921-0945
ME Version: 5.1.0 GA Build id: 20061111-5.1.0-GAIs there a way to activate “local history” when using CVS?
I don’t commit every time I make a change, only when development is ready for release. Thus without local history I’m unable to see interim changes between committing.
Kind regards
Emmanuel
Riyad KallaMemberEmmanuel,
You still have “Restore From Local history” that you can use to compare and look at changes. Was there a specific functionality you were asking about?
emmanuelMemberHello Riyad,
Thank you for your note and reply.
Unfortunately “Restore From Local history” displays “No additional members found in local history”.
I stopped using Eclipse/MyEclipse for approximately 18 months or so, but as I recall I could always obtain local history even when using CVS.
With local history not being available Eclipse/MyEclipse is less useful.
Could you assist me, by either pointing me to an option in preferences which would turn on “local history”, or by re-instating “local history” even when using CVS?
Kind regards
Emmanuel
Riyad KallaMemberEmmanuel,
Unfortunately this behavior is determined by the implementation of the plugin that is providing the revision. In the case of CVS, it overrides the Local History functionality, see here:
http://help.eclipse.org/help32/index.jsp?topic=/org.eclipse.platform.doc.user/gettingStarted/qs-55.htm
emmanuelMemberHello Riyad,
Thank you for your note and feedback.
I understand this is the behavior, as per my first post. But could this behavior be overridden, somehow? Because a useful feature is lost, as is.
If not, could ME implement such an override feature, or instigate such an override feature with Eclipse/CVS?–so this valuable feature “local history” is not lost.
Kind regards
Emmanuel
Riyad KallaMemberEmmanuel,
Sorry for misunderstanding the question. While the answer is “yes it’s possible to override it”, the changes of Genuitec doing that, since both features are provided by the platform, are very small. The reason for this is that we would become responsible for maintaining, supporting and fixing non-standard functionality from that point forward that could potentially break with each release as it changed that our customers would come to rely on. Management doesn’t make changes like that lightly and there would have to be a huge demand from users for us to tackle something like that (changing default platform behavior).Sorry.
emmanuelMemberHello Riyad,
Thank you for your note and feedback. I took this up with eclipse.org and they provided me the solution, which is very simple. I copied their reply here.
Right. The key phrase in the “Working with CVS History” is “You can control what type of revisions are shown in the table by selecting the appropriate
toggle button in the History View toolbar. The options are: Local and Remote Revisions, Local Revisions and Remote Revisions”. In the picture, the “Remote
Revisions” button is enabled and hence the picture is only showing the revisions. Clicking on either of the other buttons will reveal the local history.Kind regards
Emmanuel
