rfulkersonMemberMatisse is locking up on me quite frequently (i.e. several times a day), but not after any particular sequence of events. The problem is seems to happen most when working with a swing component in the outline view.
I have looked at the .log file, but nothing interesting is printed at the time of lockup.
To try and fix the problem, I reinstalled everything today. I am using a fresh Eclipse classic 3.4.2 install, with a fresh install up MyEclipse 7.1.1 from the update site. The only other plug-in’s I have added are subclipse, mylyn, and mylyn trac connector.
Please let me know what I can do to track down and kill this problem for good!
Thanks,
Ron
Loyal WaterMemberRon,
Did the reinstall fix the issue? Can you go to MyEclipse > Installation Summary > Installation Details and paste the information here for me so that I can ask the dev team to look into this issue.
rfulkersonMemberHi,
The lock ups are still occurring. I have pasted the installation summary below.
Thanks,

Loyal WaterMemberrfulkerson,
You seem to be working with JDK 1.6. You will have to switch back to JDK 1.5 to resolve this issue. The change has to be made in the ini file. Point the vm argument to JDK 1.5 instead of JDK 1.6.
rfulkersonMemberWow… OK, I will try giving Java 5 a try (I am desperate) and post again if things are not better.
As a friendly – you really should fully support Java 6 – reminder:
“J2SE 5.0 is in its Java Technology End of Life (EOL) transition period. The EOL transition period began April 8th, 2008 and will complete October 30th, 2009, when J2SE 5.0 will have reached its End of Service Life (EOSL).”
Thanks,
Ron

Loyal WaterMemberrfulkerson,
MyEclipse 7.x is not supported on Eclipse 3.4.2. You will have to work with 3.4.1. MyEclipse 7.5 (which is due to be released in May-June) will support Eclipse 3.4.2.I would suggest you use the All in one installer to setup MyEclipse and then test this issue. The All in One installer has MyEclipse and Eclipse preintegrated and optimized to run together.
Are you working on a 64 bit OS ?
rfulkersonMemberI am running Vista 32-bit.
So… to recap, even though the download page says 3.4.x, that’s not really true? And even though the update-site is presented side-by-side with the all-in-one installer, it’s not really supported?
The all-in-one installer is based on pulse, a huge piece of junk, and breaks a number of other plug-ins. I have too many other pressing issues to deal with pulse, so I will have to pick up this thread later and testing at a later date. For now I will just have to switch between Eclipse and Netbeans, or deal with the occasional lockup.
As a note you your management team, the idea of taking engineering resources from a great product (MyEclipse) to pursue an installer which breaks compatibility with plug-ins was a huge mistake. Please cut your losses, repent of your errors, and get back to the core product.
–Ron
P.S. 1 minute with the trash called Pulse (via the All-in-One installer): Launch the installer and get a hideous default install directory and a browse button. Hit the browse button and select a folder, then get presented with an ERROR that the location already exists… EVERY location in a browse window will EXISTS!!! Why even present a browse button if you are forced to type in the directory???
Repeat after me: Pulse is a piece of junk… Pulse is a piece of junk…. Pulse is a piece of junk… etc…
Chris KovacsMemberHi my company is a long time MyEclipse customer (5 years+) and we’ve had success with the JEE tools for quite a while now. I’m working on moving over a current Swing development project that was done in NetBeans to M4M. While evaluating the product I’m having the same problems as rfulkerson. I’m downgrading Eclipse to 3.4.1 as suggested, however moving down to Java 1.5 is absolutely NOT an option.
Can you please confirm that Java 1.6 is supported by M4M? And a question for fulkerson: did you have any problems after downgrading to 3.4.1? Or have you given up at this point?
Other than this problem, I was amazed at how I could check out my existing netbeans project with MyEclipse and start working with our rather large, complicated NetBeans project immediately. I very much hope that I can move this project over to MyEclipse as NetBeans is such an inferior product.
Thanks.
Chris KovacsMemberDowngraded to 3.4.1 and I’m still getting hanging problems.

Loyal WaterMemberYou need to switch to JDK 1.5. You are working with JDK 1.6. That should resolve the problem. MyEclipse is not certified to run with 1.6 yet.
Chris KovacsMemberWell I did a test and it still locks up on Java 1.5, same as rfulkerson reported.
Very disappointing 1.6 isn’t supported. When will that happen?
Chris KovacsMemberI have a feeling this might be related. Would be worth it for your dev team to investigate if it has to do with the problem I reported in this thread:
https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/no-support-for-lt-resourcestring-gt/
Loyal WaterMemberVery disappointing 1.6 isn’t supported. When will that happen?
We will have targeted Java 6 support for 7.5.
Chris KovacsMemberThanks.
