    Stacey,

I replicated the issue on Ubuntu 12.04, 32 bit. I found this discussion about a similar problem. The first possible solution worked for me, hopefully it will work for you.

    1. Close MyEclipse.
    2. In a terminal, enter
      sudo apt-get install libwebkitgtk-1.0-0
    3. Restart MyEclipse

If your theme is all messed up from the previous error, make sure you press the “Restore Defaults” button on the “MyEclipse Theme” preferences page, and Apply that, before making further changes.

Please let us know if this helps and sorry for the inconvenience. I’ll raise a bug report to see if we can do anything about this at our end.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that library is already installed on my system.
    Still unable to use 2014.

    Stacey,

I’m sorry to hear the the suggested fix didn’t work for you. You must have a different problem, even though the symptom appears to be the same. That discussion I linked to previously also had a link to another possible workaround, depending on your symptoms: http://ycavatars.blogspot.de/2012/07/mozillafivehome-not-set.html. I couldn’t try it as the other solution worked for me, but perhaps you could give it a go?

If the symptoms persist, could you please delete the .log file (in the .metadata folder of your workspace), recreate the problem and then attach the .log file (you will need to rename it to something like log.txt, to attach it), so we can check on any errors that get generated?

Also, can you please describe all of the symptoms, as you said that you cannot use release 2014 because of this problem. I had no obvious trouble, on Ubuntu, with MyEclipse until I went to the MyEclipse Theme preference page (which appeared the way yours did) and clicked OK. At that time, it messed up the colors, though I was able to reset after using the workaround previously mentioned. If this has happened, then you should be able to switch to another workspace to get the defaults back again though, of course, you wouldn’t be able to alter the MyEclipse theme until we find a solution for your situation.

None of the suggestions worked. Is there any ETA on a resolution to this problem?
If not, it’s really not usable for me…

    Stacey,

I’m sorry that you’re still having issues. The bug is targeted for the next service release.

Could you please read my last reply regarding more information, since the workarounds didn’t work for you. In order to ensure that this isn’t another problem that needs to be fixed, we need to reproduce the problem here.

My subscription is up for renewal at the end of the month and if the app isn’t working for my os yet, I will pass on the renewal…

    stacey,

As I mentioned in my previous reply, if the workarounds didn’t work for you, could you please provide information as requested in the post before that so we can try to reproduce the problem. If the workarounds don’t work, then you must have a different problem, which we would need to reproduce to be able to provide a fix. I’m afraid we don’t have a date for the service release though that won’t help if your problem is different from the one mentioned earlier.

For your information, I also replicated the issue described in the opening post in Fedora and fixed it in a similar way. So we really need more information to see what is different about your particular problem, in order to replicate it even with libwebkitgtk-1.0-0 installed.

    Stacey,

Thanks for some of the information asked for. I note that the log file is empty. If there were no errors associated with the problem now, the workaround may have worked. As I noted above, the colors may be all messed up from the original problem (indeed, I get exactly the same screen as you’ve posted) so you would need to open Window->Preferences->General->Appearance->MyEclipse Theme and then click the “Restore Defaults” button followed by the OK button. After this, you should be able to make changes to the theme. Note that you can also select one of the other listed themes and make changes to that.

If you still can’t get this working, please give the exact steps to replicate (from a new workspace), so we can see if something else is going on.

I removed the .metadata directory and started over, and the error persists. There isn’t any way to alter the MyEclipse perspective. The log file is attached

    stacey,

Thanks for the information. It looks like your error is similar to, but not the same, as the error I got when testing this. However, although I already had a libwebkitgtk package installed (version 3) I was still able to install version 1.0-0 and this fixed the problem. As I don’t use Ubuntu normally, I’m not sure if that will have other impacts, though it can always be removed.

So, is it possible for you to try installing that version, as mentioned here?

Could you also let me know the actual release of Ubuntu that you’re using, as it might be different from what I have, which might affect the problem. That way I can try to replicate your system more closely to try to replicate your exact symptoms. Please also attach the myeclipse.ini file that you’re using.

If this can’t be sorted soon, is it possible for you to work with one of the other themes and customize that as necessary?

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Stacey,

Thanks for the ini file. However, it’s confusing. It appears to be from a release 2013 installation, slightly modified from the shipped version (i.e. no -configuration directive). Although your opening post mentioned 2013, the opening screen shot was from 2014 (2013 didn’t have the MyEclipse Theme) and you have since stated that 2014 is unusable because of this problem.

Could you confirm which release of MyEclipse you are using and how it was installed (via the standalone installer, custom installer, SDC or an update site on top of standard eclipse)?

Also, have you been able to try the workaround as mentioned in my previous reply, and is it possible for you to use other themes, if that workaround isn’t acceptable? Our main concern is to ensure that you can do your work.

My testing for this has been on a 32 bit installion of Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS, with the latest updates, using MyEclipse 2014 installed from the standalone installer as downloaded from the MyEclipse web site.

Sorry; here’s the 2014 ini file.

I installed from a download from the MyEclipse site.

I can work in 2013; just trying to get the new version installed and working correctly.
