we wish to migrate from RAD to MyEclipse Blue, but first I have a couple of questions.

Currently RAD comes with an integrated Websphere localhost. So, if we use MyEclipse Blue we will have to have either Websphere installed locally or access a remote server.

The cost of the license for each developer to have their own Websphere installation is prohibitive (a few thousand $, I’m told).

our remote server has Admin security switched on – it seems that this is not allowed in the current version of MyEclipse Blue (the error message say it’s coming soon).

So we seem to be stuck. What options do we have?

    bongo666,
Remote websphere is supported in MyEclipseBlue7.5.
Please refer to the following link on how to configure remote websphere.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Shalini,
I’m aware that remote Websphere is supported, however the problem I have is that admin security is set on this server.

The message I receive when trying to configure the remote instance is:

“Support for remote websphere servers with administrative security enabled is not available yet, but will be coming shortly in a future release of MyEclipse Blue”

You are able to use the Websphere that comes with RAD under the runtimes directory. Just create a new websphere instance and point the installation directory to the particular WAS runtime directory under the RAD installation. Same thing for the profile directory.

Let us know if you have any issues getting it working.

Not true. You can download the WAS developer edition from IBM and use it with no license cost.
