stevs.netMemberWhen doing an IOS build on Mobi2.2 I get a message in iTunes that my iPhone 3G requires newer software. I have the latest software though.
Is there a way to put apps built on 2.2 on iPhone3G?
Regards
Steve

What version of iOS/iphoneOS is running on your 3G?
stevs.netMemberIOS 4.2.1 – the latest according to iTunes
iTunes 10.2 (10.7 fails secure connection diagnostic)Is there a link to download MobiOne 2.1 again?
Thanks,
Steve
support-octavioMemberHi Steve,
Could you try the preliminary version of MobiOne 2.2.1 (build-4) and tell us how it goes?
MobiOne 2.2.1 (build-4) Installer
stevs.netMemberThanks for that.
I installed and created another IOS .ipa but got the same message.
I can’t tell if it’s the program or the ipa compiler on the server.
I’ve included an image of after I drop the ipa onto my phone in iTunes.

support-octavioMemberHi Steve,
I’ve asked dev team what could be the problem. Will follow up with you as son as I get more information.

We are looking into this today.
Rather than use itunes are can you try the over-the-air installation? When you run the iOS App Builder wizard include an email address that you can read from your iphone. When the email notification arrives from App Center Builder, click the link to start the download process. Its super quick.
stevs.netMemberThanks Wayne,
I tried that but no luck. I end up getting a confirm badge appearing saying – “Unable to download Source Code Viewer” – Done or Retry.
I’d love to upload the ipa to the iStore but need to wait until I can test it on the phone.
Thanks
Steve
stevs.netMemberHi Wayne,
is it possible to use v2.1 until you get the problem sorted?
I really have to upload some apps to iTunes this w/e.Can you provide a link to the 2.1 installer?
Thanks

There is no rolling back to an earlier version of MobiOne as the build functionality is hosted by the App Center cloud. While researching your report I have created an test app that fails to install on iphone3G/iOS4 using the over-the-air installer. I have opened a bug report and our team is research this on the App Center side. We will update you as soon as we understand the cause and have a resolution.
stevs.netMemberThanks Wayne, can’t wait for the update.

Here’s the scoop on this issue. As of iOS6, Apple has obsolesced support version of iOS less than 4.3. We were moving quickly on the 2.2.1 update and I missed the memo on this change. So in order for MobiOne to support iOS6 and iPhone5 we had to update our build services with the latest Apple dev tools. And those tools will only create apps that install on iOS 4.3 or greater.
stevs.netMemberHi Wayne,
well that’s really taken the jam out of my doughnut 🙂
Especially as there are approximately 12-15 million iPhone 3Gs in use (not 3GS) and only 6 million iPhone 5’s in use. Are we ostracizing the right section of the market?
I guess the question is will the builds be tweaked to cater for iPhone 3G or are you saying it’s now impossible?
I understand Apple doesn’t support it’s older devices, it has a history of that but if Mobione can build for individual models including 3G, that would be awesome
They rejected a previous Mobione 2.1 app because it didn’t work on i5, although the build was fine. A button was rendered inactive because Right Transition doesn’t work on i5. Which was confirmed when I upgraded the software to 2.2. Nice how a bug in the phone is the reason the app was rejected but they wouldn’t budge when I requested they adjust the metadata to stipulate it works for 3 and 4 only. They told me to update the apps metadata but there isn’t an option to do that in iConnect.
I’m also using Appuploader service and according to Kyle at Appuploader devices are defined when doing the build however I only see the option to build for iPhone and/or iPad.
Anyway, if building for iPhone 3G will not be an option please let me know. I’ll either have to upgrade my phone (feel free to send me one 🙂 and not cater to a chunk of the market or find another software solution. Which I’m reluctant to do as I really like Mobione.
Personally I’d prefer to build for i5 once it’s more established. A lot of people I know use the 3G, no real 5 users yet. Some of my apps are for the local market which has a lot more 3G users. People like to hang on to their phones here

Just a quick update on ios usage by gaming company Two Tribes
5.0.1 – 30 percent (I think the server doesn’t like percent symbol, it kept throwing a bad request error)
4.3.3 – 9.19 percent
4.2.1 – 9.10 percentAnd 3G still has 11 percent of the market according to this stat –
http://g0.to/iosQ2sales2012Apple won’t be upgrading iPhone 3G firmware beyond 4.2.1. good one.
So if there’s anyway to include 3G compatibility (and reach 12-15 million devices still in action) I humbly request it. Market share almost dictates compatibility is super important and 3G market share will still be about 8 percent in 18 months.
And I’ve got a bunch of clients waiting and I can’t test their apps on my phone anymore….
Cheers guys!
Steve
stevs.netMemberLooks like the only 3G solution is the web app then?
I notice the web versions leave out buttons and images depending on where they’re placed in the screens.
