Is MyEclipse going to use the Eclipse WTP concept of server configuration and if yes when?

To explain: MyEclipse is using the original Easy Plugins, where a server instance and server runtime are one single definition. Where, Eclipse WTP clearly distinguish between server runtime and server intstance. Why the Eclipse WTP concept is useful? Because it will allow me to run each web application in a separate instance of the same runtime. Let say I have Tomcat 5.0 runtime installed. I have web app FooWeb and BarWeb. Then I can set up Tomcat 5 for Foo and Tomcat 5 for Bar instances of the same Tomcat 5.0 runtime. This allowes for faster start time and indenependant testing. After all I don’t want FooWeb to impact BarWeb during my testing.

    Thanks,
    Stefan

That hasn’t been decided by management yet. Your argument *for* it is a good one, I will file these details so the developers can see them.

Wow, great. I wasn’t really expecting a positive reply. So, if you allow me, I can suggest few other things:

    1. Make the UML tool separate distribution. In this way I can install a Eclipse WTP + Genuitec UML tool, pay the same price of MyEclipse PRO (still way under the market price for UML Tools) and be happy Genuitec customer. Otherwise I have to hope the Eclipse GMF come up with UML editor.

    2. Make Matis tool separate distribution for the same reason as above.

I do recognize that this may involve extra work but the benefit is wider audience for your products. Besides, the extra work will need to be done once, and collect the benefit many many times.

This problem will go away with MyEclipse 5.0 because we will be building directly ontop of WTP 1.5, so there won’t be a need to have them installed side by side anymore. The reason for that divide for so long was because we were waiting for WTP to stabalize both runtime wise and API wise. Since the 1.0 release they have been cleaning things up nice and fast, so we are jumping in feet first.
