David CloutierParticipantHi,
I have just installed MyEclipse 5.1.0 and I am receiving the following error while trying to open XML files: “An error occured. See error log for more details.” The file opens, but I get the message when I save or close the files also.I did not have this problem with MyEclipse 5.0.1.
I’m running on a Windows 2000 PC with Eclipse 3.2.
Is this a known bug? Where can I get the “logs” the message is talking about?
Thanks.
Brian FernandesModeratorHi,
Detailed instructions on how to obtain the log and further questions are available in this post: Posting Guidelines
Once you answer those questions, we can start tracking this down – did you upgrade to 5.1 from 5.0.1 or is this a clean install?
David CloutierParticipantit was an upgrade. I’ll check the guidelines and re-post later
David CloutierParticipantThe last entry in my log says that the file is readonly… which it was, I changed it to make it writable, and I no longer get the error.
I don’t think you should get a vague error popup when a file is read-only, maybe you should fix this.
thanks.
David CloutierParticipantI got a similar error (same message) when opening a .java which is not read-only. My logs say:

Brian FernandesModeratorI don’t think you should get a vague error popup when a file is read-only, maybe you should fix this.
Read only files are not an issue, if you attempt to edit a read only file, you will get a popup asking you if you’d like to remove the read only flag, not an error dialog.
Since you are seeing an error dialog and an error opening a java file, I think you have a configuration issue. There was an issue with our upgrade servers initially because of which one of the required updated plugins was not being installed.
The following steps should clear up this issue.1) Go into Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration
2) Disable the 5.1 update and downgrade to MyEclipse 5.0.1
3) Restart, now try and Find new Updates again
4) The update manager should re-find 5.1, and what it will do is only pull down the single changed plugin, then re-apply the 5.1 update, fixing the problem. If that does not fix your problem I would suggest a clean Eclipse 3.2 + MyEclipse 5.1 GA install if possible, you can hook it up to your existing workspace.
I apologize for the inconvenience caused.
