Hi,
I am trying to get MyEclipse 7.1 installed on my machine but it is getting stuck when it says “Preparing installer components…”. I waited around 1/2 our but still stuck. Rebooted my machine and tried to install it again still stuck.
Waiting for help.

Sometimes when a download is paused or interrupted, the installer gets corrupted which could cause such an issue. I would suggest you re-download the installer, check that the size of the installer you downloaded matches the size mentioned on the download page and then try setting up MyEclipse.Let me know if the problem persists.
I checked the download size, and it is 652851 KB which is 637.55 MB so it does match.
Since I had MyEclipse 7.0 installed, I tried to upgrade using the eclipse updater, but I was not successful doing that as well. It gave me errors at the end, something in the lines of jars that got downloaded did not match the size that was supposed to be downloaded.
Any other suggestions.
Just one addition to my above comment, I just restarted MyEclipse and it gave me the 7.1 in the logo, so at the moment my assumption is since I got the errors during the update (mentioned above) the update was not sucessfully completed.

Can you go to Help > Software Updates > Check for Updates and search for the updates again. Let me know if it fixes the issue.

Sorry that you are having trouble. About failsafe, when you try to install plugins/updates from a 3rd party update site, many times their sites are down or temporarily unavailable and it prevents users from installing the plug-in. In MyEclipse 7.0 and above, we try to prevent your plugin installation/update from failing and that includes a failover mechanism where-in if you can’t get the plugin you are looking for, we try to get the exact same plugin from our own repository. In this case it seems that both the update site and our own repository is failling.
Can you tell me, if you are behind a firewall/proxy? What is your hardware configuration and do you have un-interrupted internet access?

This sounds like my proxy Problem from another thread.
In my case, a tcp/ip-viewer (like the one from sysinternals) shows, that the installer tries to establish a http-connection to ‘ec2-75-101-204-80.compute-1.amazonaws.com’. The installer tries again and again and again …
While the proxy does not allow unauthenticated requests and nothing asks for authentication information the installer tries infinite times. So this is a classic deadlock that will never find an end.thorwarz,

I tried the work around posted in the https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/upgrade-from-7-1-to-7-1-1-fails-on-windows-xp-32-bit/#post-295977, as you suggested, but it did not work. Got an error from Pulse saying “Pulse could not open the explorer due to an unexpected error. Please check the log file”. You can see the exception from the log at the end of my response.

Under “My Profiles” there were two MyEclipse 7.1 entries. One had a list of other plugins that I have installed. So run the reinstall on that.But when I ran I got the below errors again, and now I cannot even start MyEclipse :(.
The message I get when I try to start MyEclipse is
“The MyEclipse executable launcher was unable to locate its companion shared library”

After starting the install at 7.30 in the morning I just got done installing 7.1. Total of 5hrs.
Just one additional comment, through out this process I felt like I was intalling RAD, which is very very painful.
I might be wrong but It seems the pulse integration with eclipse or myeclipse is not very good, and it seems to slow/hijack the upgrades.
To tell you the truth, I miss the days, when I can just drop the plugin files into the eclipse plugin dir, and everything worked.I have been a staunch defender of Eclipse/MyEclipse against all IntelliJ users, but I am not that sure anymore.
We released an update to Pulse friday (version 2.4.1) that includes a new Proxy configuration GUI that you can access from inside Pulse Explorer by right-clicking anywhere in the tree and going to Preferences. You can do the same from inside MyEclipse by going to Window > Prefs > Pulse > Network settings.
