Hi,

I’m attempting to install Aptana 1.5.1 (latest release) plugin into the latest release of MyEclipse (7.5). I downloaded the Aptana plugin (com.aptana.ide.feature.studio-1.5.1.025914-57J37FRWVV3S_z-lWprtymEDiz00.zip) from the Aptana web site (http://www.aptana.com/studio/download/thanks?platform=plugin&os=false) and followed their installation instructions:

o Save the above file to an easy-to-find location.
o Open Eclipse distribution, and go to Help -> Install New Software….
o Click the Add… button to open the Add Site window.
o Click the Archive… button, and select the file saved in step 1.
o Select the appropriate plugins to install, and click Next -> Next.
o Click the Finish button.

First, as you can see the installation instructions do not exactly apply to MyEclipse 7.5 since there is no Help->Install New Software option. I attempted to use the Help->Software Updates->Add/Remove Software. I then selected Add and then Add Archive. I pointed the archive to the Aptana plugin that I downloaded earlier. I checked the selection to install the Aptana Studio and then Apply. After a minute or two it givens me a Error resolving MyEclipse 7.5 dialog with the message: An unexpected error occurred validating the selected profile. Reason: Cannot complete the install because some dependencies are not satisfiable. Clicking the Details button gives me the out below.

Questions: Has anyone successfully installed MyEclipse 7.5 with Aptana 1.5.1? If so, did you need to do anything special or did you use a method other then the one I described?

Hi myeclipseac,

MyEclipse doesn’t provide an integrated support for Aptana plugin. I have researched over the net and found that Aptana 1.5.1 supports Eclipse 3.5. Whereas MyEclipse 7.5 is based on Eclipse 3.4.2. This is the reason you are seeing dependency errors. I would recommend you to get an Aptana plugin which supports base eclipse 3.4.2 and add it to MyEclipse as a plugin.

I attempted your suggestion and it still doesn’t work (see error dump below). The Aptana web site (http://www.aptana.com/studio/download/thanks?platform=plugin&os=false) states:

Aptana Studio 1.5 for Eclipse 3.4 Instructions
o From the Help menu in Eclipse, select Software Updates …
o Select the Available Software tab
o Click the “Add Site…” button
o Specify the Location Url update site: http://update.aptana.com/install/studio/ and click OK
o Select the checkbox next to the added update site
o Click the Install… button
o Complete instruction to install from update site

So I state again, as anyone successfully installed Aptana 1.5.1 with Eclipse 7.5?

The aptana site mentions support for Eclipse 3.4, but doesn’t categorically state that it supports for Eclipse 3.4.2. There is a lot of difference between 3.4 and 3.4.2, that is why you see a lot of dependency errors. I have investigated further and I was able to successfully install Aptana 1.2.7 on ME 7.5.

Our dev team members investigated this and they found that MyEclipse 7.5 and Aptana 1.5.1 each require an explicit version of XULRunner and both cannot be installed.

MyEclipse 7.5 requires:org.mozilla.xulrunner.win32.win32.x86/[1.9.0.7-zmyeclipse75020090612,1.9.0.7-zmyeclipse75020090612]
whereas, Aptana 1.5.1 requires: org.mozilla.xulrunner.win32.win32.x86/[1.9.0.5,1.9.0.5]

The only way to get this to work would be if Aptana can relax their version constraint to include 1.9.0.7.

May I request you to contact Aptana and ask them to relax their version constraint to include 1.9.0.7?
