Each time I restart MyEclipse it loses the proxy settings (General\Network Connections). None of the other post concerning this issue seem to fix it for me (unless I want to downgrade to 7.1).

    MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench

    Version: 7.5
    Build id: 7.5-20090609

Running on Vista Enterprise behind a NTLM proxy

    William,

You need to set your proxy details here – Window > Preferences > Pulse > Network Settings
Enter proxy details. Select communications tuning as either maximum compatibility or native java network connectivity.

Let me know how this works for you.

The problem was with the subeclipse plug-in not being able to connect to a remote SVN repository.
I had to completely remove Eclipse and track down where Pulse had deposited it’s files and delete those as well. After doing a fresh install of the full stack and checking the “Native Java network connectivity” mode on the pulse configuration screen I was able to download the subeclipse plug-in. I am now able to connect to the remote SVN repository.

It seems weird that Pulse’s settings would have anything to do with a plug-ins network settings. Perhaps someone can explain that do me.

    William,

Good question — I’ll try and shed some light that what might have been going on.

In our older releases of Pulse, all the way up to the 2.4.x series, we tried to the “good thing” by re-routing all platform network communication over our Pulse-configured communication channel. We did this because we put a huge amount of time and effort into auto-detecting network settings, providing fallbacks internally when communication failed, proxy support, complex network topology support, etc.

Little did we realize at the time was just HOW MANY network configurations exist… some working wonderfully with all our auto-configuring magic and others failing terribly and leaving the user with the frustrating situation where Pulse thought it was smarter than them.

We cleaned this all up in 2.4.0/1/2 — so now Pulse and all it’s auto-configuring wonderment is a hell of a lot more accurate now, overridable AND only manages network communication done by Pulse — all other platform communications are handled by Eclipse themself.

I think what the clean reinstall may have done is gotten you all synced up ontop of the latest Pulse (2.4.2 if you started with MyEclipse 7.5 All in One — or Pulse 2.5 if you installed from the Pulse website) and got some patches in the process that no longer interferred with the network comm that the SVN plugin was using.

Hope that helps shine a bit of light on what happened.

To further clarify the situation; just changing the settings in the Window > Preferences > Pulse > Network Settings was not enough. I actually had to start Pulse, have it fail because there was no where to enter my credentials for the proxy. Then I was able to enter in the username/password for my proxy. Restart Eclipse, and bam! everything worked. At least until i got my laptop home. Then The revers procedure to try and get it to work without a proxy failed. I got so frustrated that I uninstalled Pulse, which, by the way uninstalls MyEclipseIde without warning.

How do I get MyEclipseIde to correctly use the settings in Internet Connection Settings? When I take my laptop home to work and I am not behind a proxy the subversive plugin never registers the changes to Pulse even after multiple restarts. Base Eclipse does not suffer from this problem.

Please understand my frustration. Pulse brings nothing to my party but it does make it harder on me to get the simple things done. If you look at the way Base Eclipse is now distributed, this would seem to be a pretty good model of how people are really using the tool. Sometimes I’m a Java developer, sometimes a web developer, sometimes something else. They offer separate distributions for each of those roles.

BTW: My yearly subscription runs out on the 21st of August and unless a version of MyEclipseIDE is offered that does not depend on Pulse then I will not be renewing my subscription after five years of being a loyal subscriber.

Subclipse/Subversive should be using your network settings from Windows > Prefs > General > Network Settings — those are the Eclipse platform settings.

Pulse settings can be changed under Window > Prefs > Pulse > Network Settings — that should only effect Pulse-driver functionality like the Dashboard, Add/Remove Software or checking for Updates (or saving/applying Workspace updates).

If the problem is with the SVN integration, just make sure to check and adjust the respective settings under the General > Network Connection area and you should be fine after a restart.

Absolutely true — that’s why we provide so many ways to install MyEclipse. You can use the All in One or Pulse directory (both include Pulse) OR you can install MyEclipse directly into your own Eclipse install using our update site, or you can grab our archived update site and install it locally, or you can just download our “Manual Install” packages which are pre-bundled Eclipse Classic + MyEclipse installs all ready to go… just unzip and run.

The only legwork in the more manual cases is making sure you are running with a compatible JRE — JRE 1.6.0_13 is preferred.

Maybe one of those options would make more sense in your environment where you know what your doing and don’t want anything in your way? We have a lot of advanced users that are like this and like to manage everything thesmelves.

Totally understand, I hope the response above points you in the direction of a more applicable download.
