    Hi,

MyEclipse 8.5 is freezing at startup. It affects our entire development team, i.e., it’s not limited to a single PC. We’re using the default command-line arguments (though we tried -clean, too).

The IDE starts up, loads the previous solution, and then seems to hang as it goes to the Configuration Center. Is there a way to disable that behavior from the command-line?

Please get back to me ASAP.

    Jeff

It seems to be working now. What did you guys do on your end? And how do I prevent this freeze from happening again on our end?

    Jeff,

First, let me apologize for the startup issue you encountered. We’re taking this report very seriously since this is the first we’ve ever had of anything like this. We’ve checked our servers and didn’t have any issues around the time that this occurred. However, we definitely want to dig a bit deeper to see if we can determine exactly what happened with your environment. Toward that end, could you perform the following steps to provide us with some more detail so we can investigate further:

    1) Launch MyEclipse and go to the Configuration Center.
    2) Toward the bottom of the Dashboard page in the “About” area there is a small “life-saver” icon that will bundle up and send a lot of diagnostic information from your installation.
    3) Press the lifesaver icon and in the description please include both the URL of this forum post as well as answers to the following questions:
    a) When you launched MyEclipse, did you use the desktop shortcut, launch from the Pulse Explorer, or some other mechanism?
    b) The prior time you exited MyEclipse, was the Configuration Center the active perspective? If so, what did you see while the Configuration Center tried to display (ie. status of xx%? Was the “Exit arrow” at the top right displayed and if so did it work? If the Configuration Center was not the active perspective on your last exit how did you activate it (ie. from the Help menu, the little prompt dialog at startup, etc). Was startup possible if you did not select the Configuration Center?
    4) Please include your best email address – the bundle submission is private and will create a support ticket in an internal system. We’ll need your email address to be able to interact with you directly to diagnose the issue.
    5) Send the support bundle to us.

Thanks in advance for you help in tracking down this issue.

    Jeff,

I have good news. We have located and fixed this issue! Your bug report and support bundle proved invaluable in this process so thank you again for taking the time to send it to us. While the code path that resulted in this problem executes extremely rarely, as you found there are rare circumstances that can trigger it which are related to having network connectivity, but inaccessibility to our servers in the Amazon S3 cloud. The issue could have been triggered by a change within your corporate environment or within the Amazon cloud but whatever the cause we are able to put in a fix to ensure the issue does not reoccur.

The Pulse team will be releasing a fix for this problem once it has been tested. Once they have done so, the MyEclipse team will be able to incorporate the fix into MyEclipse 8.6, which is due to ship in 1 week.

I’d like to take this moment to thank you again for using MyEclipse and for contacting us so we could identify and fix this issue.
