Tulsi RaiMemberhi all,
could any one guide me to install myeclipse in Linux (RedHat)? i already have eclipse 3.0 installed. I also have downloaded myeclipse for linux which is .bin file. thanks.
GregMemberYou can just execute the .bin file:
# sh EnterpriseWorkbenchInstaller_030802.bin
as long as you have a 1.4.2 java vm in your path.
You can also visit the Install Quickstart. It is tailored for windows but most is still applicable. Install Quickstart

thanks for your help. now i am able to install it but i still don’t know how to start it. the istallation has put “MyEclipse_Enterprise_Workbench” in my home directory. any suggestions what i need to do? thanks.
Scott AndersonParticipantYou can simply start Eclipse as you did before installing MyEclipse. It will be automatically picked up.

yes i did. it does not show J2EE, Web Project, JSP anything like it does in Windows. I went to Windows–>Preference to see if i can configure myeclise, i don’t see myeclipse option there too. any suggestion?
Scott AndersonParticipantThen it’s likely that the installation did not terminate normally. The easiest way to fix it is to simply download our manual installation version, which is packaged as a zip file, and follow the simple instructions that are contained within it to complete the installation. I’d also recommend that you start with a fresh install of Eclipse 3.0.1, just so we can insure that there won’t be any conflict with the failed installation.

could you provide me the link to your manual installation version. i could not find it. thanks.
Tulsi RaiMemberHey Scott,
I downloaded the manual version of myeclipse and did exactly the same as indiccated by the instruction. i uninstalled eclipse 3.0 and uninstalled myeclipse as well and did the clean installation but I still don’t see myeclipse coming up in the list when i do –>Window–>Open Perspective –>Other. any suggenstion that i might have done wrong?here’s my installation environment:
eclipse 3.0
/usr/eclipsemyeclipse
/home/trai/download/myeclipse/eclipsedoes myeclipse have to be in the /usr/eclipse? thanks.
Scott AndersonParticipantOne thing that comes to mind is that for a trial installation, the user that installs Eclipse and MyEclipse has to be the same user as that runs it. So, for a trial you can’t install as root and then run as a normal user. This restriction is removed when a subscription key is available. The other things to check to validate your installation are listed in the Install / Uninstall Quickstart here: http://www.myeclipseide.com/images/tutorials/quickstarts/install/#verifying
Also, can you please post all the information we request in the Posting Guidelines thread at the top of this forum? That will give us some context so that we can have all the context we need to help diagnose the issue.
Tulsi RaiMemberHere’re what i have,
OS = RedHat 9
eclipse-platform-SDK-3.0.1-linux-gtk.zip
myeclipse_030802.zipI have unizpped the eclipse-platform-SDK-3.0.1-linux-gtk.zip in /usr/eclipse and myeclipse_030802.zip in /home/trai/myeclipse. as indicated in the installation instructions, i don’t think the location of the myeclipse matters. when i extracted the myeclipse_030802.zip, i have eclipse, img folders and manual-install.html file as well. i don’t know why i don’t seem to get it right.
i would appreicate if you could give me some guidelines.
Scott AndersonParticipantThe next step is to open manual-install.html in a web browser and follow the step-by-step instructions to complete the installation.
ontiraMemberyour step by step instructions do not work, I did a manual install on linux in my home directory,, I have eclipse 3.1 and myeclipse 3.8.2. The option to view the myeclipse perspective does not exist. Suggestions!
ontiraMemberthis is the output from the terminal:
Category com.genuitec.eclipse.views.myEclipseCategory not found for view org.eclipse.monitor.view. This view added to ‘Other’ category.
and the myeclipse perspective still does not show up under “Other” !
Riyad KallaMembermnholt,
A few things:1) Eclipse 3.1 won’t work, up until that last post you have been using Eclipse 3.0.1, which is correct.
2) You cannot install Eclipse and MyEclipse as different users (root and your own user for example) unless you have a subscription, it seems you keep doing this (/usr/local, and $HOME/myeclipse) -
