    Hello,

I’m not sure how this happened, but all of the custom MyEclipseIDE add-ons to the 2016 CI release are now missing from the UI. So the MyEclipse Perspectives don’t show up in the Perspectives menu, and the MyEclipse Preferences menu item does not launch a dialog window, now do they appear in the Prefernces menu dialog. I’ve tried restarting with the -clean option, but this hasn’t worked. I can’t seem to figure out how to restore these MyEclipseIDE custom features.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I ended up repairing the installation using the installer. Requires re-installation of all plugins. I have a bad feeling about the MyEclipse’s CI strategy…

    Carlos,

Sorry that you had to repair the installation.
Did you update the OS or the MyEclipse which might have caused this issue ?

It might also be an issue with a corrupted workspace due to incorrect shutdown of the IDE where the settings might have been lost. Did you check if the issue persists in a new workspace as well?

It is odd and very rare that the installed plugins disappear from the installation unless there is some corruption due to an incompatible update to the installation.

Apologies for inconvenience caused. Let us know if you see any issues.

Thanks for replying to my post. I had not made any changes to the configuration for a couple of months, so I don’t believe this was the issue. I did not think to try a different workspace to detect potential corruption. If the workspace was corrupted, what would I do to fix this issue? It took me a couple of hours to get back to my original configuration.

    Carlos,

Trying to figure out what originally went wrong – we were not sure what you meant by “MyEclipse custom add-ons”. Can you look at Help > Choose Components – of course, most of these will show installed right now, do these look like the features that were missing? Or were you talking about other features installed form 3rd party sites?

As far as the failure – a single core plugin could have failed to start (for unknown reasons atm) and based on the plugins that depend on this, it could cascade into a much larger failure. If you still have the .log file from that workspace, can you send that to us please? it will be at <workspace dir>/.metadata/.log. Please change the extension of the .log to .txt and attach it to your response.

I have a bad feeling about the MyEclipse’s CI strategy…

Since you didn’t really apply any updates or move to a new version, being on the CI stream (or not) would not have made a difference. But we certainly would like to figure out what has gone wrong – the log might shed some light on the matter.

All of the MyEclipse-specific functionality in the release were no longer visible from any of the menu items. The Choose Components item does show the configuration correctly.

I was working fine with the 2016 release for a few months and I had made any plugin additions when the episode happened. I looked at the .log file and I did not see anything that stood out as a configuration error. I need to get my development platform functioning again, so I performed a recovery. It did not occur to me at the time to try a different workspace and try to reproduce the issue.

I guess my experience with the MyEclipseIDE (and perhaps Eclipse itself) over the years is that it is somewhat fragile. I am very careful about customizing my configuration and upgrade/update only when absolutely necessary. That’s why I approach the CI strategy with a bit of trepidation. That said, I appreciate the MyEclipse customization of Eclipse and use these features regularly.

I’m assuming you meant had not made plugin additions?

The different workspace may or may not have resolved the problem, depends on what actually went wrong.

I do admit updates could sometimes be scary with both Eclipse and MyEclipse – but that was ages ago. Ever since 2013, we’ve had a much better update experience (you can also downgrade easily to a previous version from within the application as well). So this should definitely not have happened.

I’m glad you enjoy using MyEclipse, thank you!
