    Hi,

there is an update to ME 7.5 available, but it’s not possible for me to install it (MacOS 10.5.7, Java 6).

While installing, the process ended with:

An error occurred while unconfiguring the items to uninstall

    java.lang.NullPointerException

After a restart of ME the logo says 7.5 but could it be that the installation is not completed / corrupted?

    Cheers
    Benny

    Benny,

Sorry to hear you are running into this issue. Can you answer few questions for me –
    1. How did you install ME7.5? using all-in-one installer from download site or using the archived update or using pulse to download?

After a restart of ME the logo says 7.5 but could it be that the installation is not completed / corrupted?

Do you mean to say that you installed ME7.5 and installed the plugins available from the dashboard and attempted a restart. After restart you get the NPE? Can you please clarify?

    Hi Joy,

    1. via “Check for Updates”

    2. I did an update as usual, and got this message. After restarting ME, it shows 7.5 in the splash screen, but e.g. the ME start page still said 7.1. The details of the update dialog are showing some of the classes / libs etc. as 7.1.1 -> 7.5, so I guess the update was not fully performed. The message is still there, when I perform an update.

    Cheers,
    Benny

Darn the update! Do you remember which update and what is the version?
Let us try to do a quick fix.
Can you open pulse explorer manually. You can look for ~\Genuitec\Pulse Explorer\pulse-explorer.exe
It will prompt you to either login/register/login anonymously. You can login anonymously. This will direct you to explorer. Now click/expand “My Profiles”. This will list you all your MyEclipse profiles. Click on the MyEclipse profile in question. You will notice that the right hand pane display base, shared and personal software. Personal software displays all the 3rd party plugins/features and newly added updates. I would recommend you to review the list. Now right click on the update causing this issue and click on [remove]. Now right click on MyEclipse 7.1 or relevant in the left hand pane. This will display you a lot of options under the context menu. Click on [Re-install and run]. Pulse will automatically resolve any conflicting dependencies.

    Sorry for the inconvinience.

Well, this quick did not work – the reinstall died with:

An internal error occurred during: “update”.
    Java heap space

Now ME does not even start anymore because it cannot find its companion shared library.

That means, download and reinstall? Without pulse?

    Cheers

    Benny,

Can you quickly verify your MyEclipse installation dir, I think the root cause is you are mising myeclipse.ini file. If you need to download ME 7.1.1 without pulse, you can download from here – http://myeclipseide.com/module-htmlpages-display-pid-4.html. Read the terms and conditions, accept the license agreement and click on [Download] MyEclipse 7.1, next page will display all the download versions. You can choose the 5th option of manual install.

Ok, I was able to reinstall it … but even with a fresh ME, it’s not possible to update from 7.1.1 to 7.5 … but I think I will wait until you release 7.5. for official download – maybe installation is safer than the update process.

    Cheers,

Good to hear Benny that you are all set with your reinstall. Yes, please wait for the official release. And next time you are prompted to update to ME7.5, please donot update till you hear an official confirmation on the release. There are a couple of users reporting issues about upgrading from ME7.1.1 to ME7.5. Dev team are currently working on this.
    Thank you for your patience.

    bbraeuer,
Can you give me some details about the version of MyEclipse that you were trying to update this time round and what patch were you applying?

Also, can you paste the entire error message here for me.

It’s the same NullPointerException as in the entry post. And now it’s a

“This profile can not be resolved because required software could not be located.
Could not locate installable unit: mac.disabled.for.myeclipse.75.see.forums 0.0.0
    …”-message

So I will wait until Macs are allowed again to update 😉

    Cheers,

    cmontemu,

That is intentional, the Mac update was failing and we added an invalid bundle to stop people from getting the update until we fix it. See my thread link above.
