I know this has nothing to do with Eclipse or Java, but I just saw that the Opera Desktop browser is now free…

I’m a steadfast Firefox fan.. but I have to say Opera 8 is a very fast browser…

I used this release for about 2 weeks and really liked it. I did run into some behavior quirks, but as far as features, technology, performance, etc. I was really impressed across the board.

I used to use opera alot back when my development work machine was linux. Every major feature that is now in IE/Firefox originated on Opera. (tabs, mouse gestures, pop-up blocking, image/ad control). By far its the fastest browser out there. I like firefox too and use it alot, but many times I can have as many as 15 tabs open at a time and firefox just doesn’t scale like opera.

Interesting.. how do you do image/ad control in Opera? That’s the *only* thing from FF I’m really missing right now..

I also like how opera allows you to toggle image downloading off for a particular page. I do that often for pages that are really slow when loading 3rd party images that are mainly ads.
