Please add a forum for Open Source Development

We need a place where we can discuss interoperability issues with other IDEs used within the Open Source scene.

Marky what kind of issues did you want to discuss? You mention “interoperability issues with other IDEs” meaning MyEclipse and other IDEs or just how IDEs interact with eachother? Since it’s in our best interest to service our MyEclipse user base we will do our best to give them what they want, but if a request is a bit too far outside the bounds of what our forums are intended for (Supporting our users) management may not go for it. So a little more details would be handy.

The topic is about IDE interoperability and it is not out of bound for any vendor who likes to be part of the Open Source scene…

I am involved in a project on SourceForge, and there we develop with multiple IDEs, one of them is MyEclipseIDE (actually an important one, because it is available at a nice price).

But there are issues for example when you try to work with
– Bea Workshop 3.2
– MyEclipseIDE
– etc.

Interoperability Issues.

And to discuss such issues, we need a forum on your site. It’s about interoperability in the Open Source Development sphere.

Thank you for the followup. I am going to move this discussion to our General forum and solicit feedback from others to see if this is something they need and want as well. MyEclipse runs in a very democratic fashion, we try and address all the user demands that come in but some of the bigger demands we want to make sure are demanded by a good majority of the community before doing it.

Then let’s first find out how my MyEclipseIDE users are not working on a Enterprise project only, but also contribute to an Open Source project on
– SourceForge
– java.net
– CollabNet
– Codehaus
– ObjectWeb
– any other shared SVN or CVS repository

On those platforms usually developers come together with different IDEs, some of the Eclipse based, some of the others (such as NetBeans, etc).

I still say: if MyEclipseIDE fits good with other IDEs, then this is a plus in the Open Source scene. If it does not fit well with other IDEs, then it’s the normal Java case (which is the current bad situation in the Java Open Source scene). It’s a matter of being at the forefront, or not. I still say: if MyEclipseIDE is an Open Source friendly IDE, then it can only win, because it has the right price / value relationship.
