sarikanParticipantDear Genuitec,
I do not know what kind of motivation you have for constantly introducing new complexity into MyEclipse for software updates, but I’ve personally had my share of torture.
You have successfully managed to turn a platform that is build for easy extension into a good product which is a complete pain to extend.
In every new release you invent something new around the software updates and I’m really sick of it. My time matters, that’s why I’m paying for your product, but MyEclipse has been stealing more time than it earns in the recent versions, and I can’t figure out your motivation for all this custom update mechanisms.
You’ve forced Pulse, and later you’ve played with update sites mechanism. Your documents are usually behind your product features, and at the moment all I want to do is to install Birt, and guess what, all I get is an error that says “Invalid requirement for update site” when I try to use the update site. What? I mean WHAT? I wont’ even bother to ask for help for this one, for I know I’ll get a reply in a week or so, when I need to figure this out in half on hour. And that reply will probably be we’ll fix it in the next release, we are sorry you are having problems bla bla.
You still have features in your product that keeps me as a customer, but I’m just about to hit the limit here. please STOP destoying the core idea of Eclipse platform. People should be able to add new plugins from other sources too. You will never be able to produce alternatives to all things out there, though you seem to be trying to do this. If I don’t want your version of Birt or Maven, don’t make it hard for me to use the version I want. You seem to be missing the whole point of the platform.
Just in case someone who has a say in this kind of decisions read this…Kind regards
Seref
Loyal WaterMemberSeref,
1. BIRT cannot be installed independently because it collides with MyEclipse Reports.2. You can grab the Manual Install versions of MyEclipse on our download page (item #5) which has no Pulse in it.
Haivi113MemberPulse is a f*cking idiot software that should not be included in MyEclipse. I’m really tired with trying to update/install plugins. Give my money back!!!

I agree to sarikan, birt is a nice tool that is already complete, why the heck should you write your own birt implementation? And if so, provide a standalone myeclipse-birt runtime, so people can run their reports in a batch-application or through an application server…
edit: used the wrong name
