Hi Guys we have a problem with the buttons and text not showing in the help ?

    Everything else seems fine …..

We’ve had a look through the online support pages and just can’t see anything similar ?
If we use the help on your website all looks ok, its like eclipse can’t see or doesn’t know where the help is on the pc ….

I have a screen shot of the problem but can’t attach to this forum ?

    any ideas …

One thing that might be the issue is that the Eclipse help system runs Tomcat internally. So, if you have any “internet security” or firewall software, it might be interfering with it as it needs to open a port to operate properly.

Guys …. is there another way i can check/test if the ports are open or not.
as far as i can see
    1) The Microsoft XP firewall is turned off
    2) Internet Explorer security settings are set to default ….
    3) The antivirus software we use is Sophos and it (allegedly) doesn’t block any ports ….
    Cheers …

The Eclipse help system runs on an unprivaleged port on your local system. So the internal help system will be location at http://127.0.0.1:<unprivaledged port>/help/….

Where the unprivaledged port could range from 1025 to 65300. Its most likely greater than 50000. It looks like Eclipse just uses whatever port is given by the OS. So ensure that your security software isn’t blocking those high ports. High ports are often used in many trojan and backdoor virus programs, so it would make sense that they might be blocked.
