When using the db-explorer with derby we are able to connect but can’t see any tables. When doing this with quantum ( another plug-in ) this works.

I used Derby with ME and had no problems viewing my tables.
Make sure you are looking in the correct schema. Your sql CREATE script might have put the table in another schema then expected, unless explicitly specified by the script. And make sure that you are not filtering that schema when setting up the connection via ME’s wizard.
