browngMemberAlthough I’m impressed with the MyEclipse product, I wish the MyEclipse team would provide better tutorials to give new users some confidence working with the tool. First off, the Flash tutorials should be replaced with Html or pdf or any format that can be printed.
Here’s how I use tutorials. First, I print them off. As I’m working through the tutorial using the IDE, I’m constantly referring to the hard copy. The only time I use the online tutorial is when I have to copy a bunch of code.
I think it’s critically important to provide samples of complete working applications corresponding to each tutorial. Sometimes you make mistakes while following a tutorial. So it would be nice to refer to a perfectly functioning sample so that you can discover your errors.I’d also like some fool-proof tutorials on how to import some popular j2ee and web projects such as Sun’s Petstore, Spring’s JPetStore, Struts samples etc. If I were you, I provide lots of these import tutorials. Think about it, folks are always trying these tutorials and they want a quick and easy way to import them into MyEclipse. Do you really want new customers scatching their heads for hours trying to import projects that can be perfectly built and deployed with ant in a couple of minutes?
Scott AndersonParticipantYour comments are spot-on as our management team has been saying the same thing. Once 3.8 GA is out (about a day or less from now), the highest priority for the entire team will be a complete rewrite of our documentation and a full set of tutorials that explain how to get started quickly. Until this point, we’ve certainly emphasized features over doc, but it is high time that the doc caught up because it is certainly the limiting factor for us right now. Thank you for your feedback and in advance for your patience while we finally eliminate this critical shortcoming.
