DaftMuleMemberUpgrading from MyEclipse 8.0.n to 8.6 using the “check for updates” facility under the Help menu. It’s also picked up some other stuff to update…about 450 mb update in total.
Can you tell me why there appears to be no way to minimise the dialog which shows you the update progress..or force it to run in the background! I am unable to continue working in eclipse while the download is happening although the IDE is open in the background behind the update dialog.
The Minimise button on the updates dialog is disabled and there is no other way to force it to the background that I can see. Pressing close does just close the update window and seems to cancel the update.
What’s even more amusing is that you have a help icon on the updates dialog which does absolutely nothing because the update dialog won’t release any control to the parent IDE!!
support-joyMemberDaftMule,
When you click on MyEclipse > Manage MyEclipse Plugins. It opens a *checking for updates* window. This has a provision to run in the background. You can click on [Run in background] button. You can monitor the progress in the status bar. Once the process completes, it opens MyEclipse Dashboard. This lists all the updates available. You can choose to apply the software updates to your MyEclipse profle. By design the minimize option is not available as there are only 2 conditions either you apply the update or skip the process. Applying the update means making changes to your ME profile. Hence the minimize option is disabled. To view help in MyEclipse Dashboard, you can click on the link *How to use MyEclipse Dashboard…*
Hope this helps.

DaftMuleMemberNot really sure what you are trying to say?
I used the “check for updates” menu option under the “Help” menu, not MyEclipse > Manage MyEclipse Plugins. That “Help -> Check for Updates” route opened a dialog which checked what I had, gave me a summary of the available updates in a dialog window then, when I clicked to update, the Check for Updates window remained with no minimise or “Run in background” option available…just some eclipse adverts showing and a progress bar (like your second image above but there was a space above the progress bar where it was displaying various MyEclipse adverts).
Now that the updates have finished and I am on v8.6, I notice that there is no longer a “check for updates” option available under “Help” . You just have the “MyEclipse Configuration Centre” option. The same is true under the MyEclipse menu…nothing about plugins or updates, just an option for “MyEclipse Configuration Centre” plus the normal prefs, subscriptions etc.
Anyway, the update has completed now. It was just very annoying at the time not to be able to minimise or force that update progress window to run in the background so I could get on with some work.

Thank you for clarifying. I do see the issue reported by you exists in 8.0 if you click on Help > Software Updates > Check for Updates.

True. MyEclipse 8.5 and 8.6 replaced Software Updates > Add/Remove software and Check for Updates with MyEclipse Configuration Center. To check for updates. Open MyEclipse Configuration Center and choose Dashboard tab. This should list you any software updates available.
Good to hear you are all set and have updated to the latest version of ME 8.6
