    Hi there,

since some weeks (My)Eclipse is slowing down from time to time. I found then a process in the progress view running for a long period of time named “Re-Indexing repository WS”. This process likes to run after starting up MyEclipse. It will also slow down for example startup time of JBoss from about 1 min to over 6 min. The process itself runs for about 15-20 min and restarts on its own from time to time.

What is this and how can I make it stop or run faster?

I am working with MyEclipse 10.5.

    Thanks for any hint.

    Regards,

    Michael

    Michael,

Sorry that you are seeing this issue.

    1. Can you please let us know if you have installed any third party plugins like EGIT ? If yes, please list them.

    2. If you have installed EGIT, please check this bug which is filed for similar issue :
    https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=323839

    3. Can you please switch to a new workspace to see if the issue exists ?

Let us know how it works for you.

    Hi,

thank you for the hint – EGIT seems to be the right keyword: I removed egit and jgit and it looks as if the problem was gone.

As far as I don’t need egit I will leave it like this. Maybe we’ll meet again in some months after having migrated to git…

    Regards,

    Michael

    Michael,

Glad that the issue is resolved. This issue looks specific to EGIT and Eclipse. I suggest you check on Eclipse forums for better support if you see similar issue next time.

    Hope it helps.

    Back again.
The problem was not really solved, as it was only gone because I removed the plugin.

As we plan to migrate to Git, it would be nice to be able to use eGit. But the problem still exists, as I saw after installing it.

Do you know about the problem and it’s reasons?
    How can I solve this?

    Regards,

    Michael

    Michael,

I’m afraid this is an issue the eGit team would need to fix; there is nothing that we do in MyEclipse that would influence this behavior.

You might want to look at the following bugs at Eclipse:

    https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=323839
    https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=361758

You may also want to run some git maintenance commands (externally) to see if that improves the indexing performance.

Sorry we could not be of further assistance.

    Brian,

thanks for the hints, but I think the specified bug reports do not fit to my situation:
Both bug reports describe a performance problem when synchronizing local changes with a repository. In my case I do not have any git projects in my workspace. I only installed the git plugins and features as we plan to change to git in some weeks.

So with no Git repository referenced by any code in my workspace I do run in this problem “Re-indexing repository WS” – even after additionally closing all CVS synchronize or repository views.

    Any other idea?

    Thank you,

    Michael

    Michael,

Apologies for the late response, I thought I had replied earlier. Besides having GIT projects, this could even happen if you just the GIT repository configured, it should not happen if you just have the plugin and no repositories at all.

    1) Are you completely sure that the error disappears if you remove the git plugins?
    2) Can you please attach a screenshot of the workspace when you experience this problem – I want to be completely sure that we are talking about the same problem.

    Brian,

I am completely sure that after removing the git plug-in this behaviour will disappear.

Attached you will find a screenshot containing MyEclipse while starting up showing the “Re-Indexing repository WS”.

    Regards,

    Michael
