JohnMemberJust upgraded my Macbook Pro from Leopard to Snow Leopard (MACOSX 10.6).
After the upgrade I brought up MyEclipse 7.1 and attempted to launch Tomcat 5.5.
A dialog is displayed with:
Caption:
Error starting Tomcat 5.x server
Body of dialog:
A configuration error occurred during startup. Please verify the preference field with the prompt: Cannot connect to VM
There is also a link on the dialog:
Show Preference Page...
When you click the link it brings up the Preferences (Filtered) to the Tomcat 5.x page. This preference page has the Enable/Disable radio buttons along with the directories where Tomcat is installed. These all seem to be ok.
Not sure what the problem. This Tomcat installation has been running well under MyEclipse 7.1 for several months. The only obvious change is the Operating System.
Thanks in advance. 🙂
JohnMemberThe following is from the .log file just after starting MyEclipse 7.1 (before starting Tomcat 5.5)

JohnMemberPerformed the following actions:
-
* Uninstalled MyEclipse 7.1
* Uninstalled Pulse
* Downloaded MyEclipse 7.5
* Installed MyEclipse 7.5 to my home directory to avoid directory permission conflicts
* Launched MyEclipse
* Configured MyEclipse with the location of my Tomcat installation
* Launched Tomcat 5.5 from within MyEclipse – Tomcat launched fine!
* But then I updated SpringIDE from the MyEclipse Dashboard (see image below).-
* Tomcat would fail to launch and I would get the message discussed earlier in this thread:
Cannot connect to VM.
-
* Then could no longer launch Tomcat.
* Went back into the MyEclipse Dashboard and uninstalled the SpringIDE for MyEclipse – AJDT and Mylyn Support.
* All well now. 🙂
JohnMemberAbove I spoke of a resolution. Several minutes later after having switched workspaces the same condition is back!
I looked at the .log file located under ${WORKSPACE_DIR}/.metadata directory. It has the following header:
!SESSION 2009-08-29 09:21:00.259 ----------------------------------------------- eclipse.buildId=unknown java.version=1.6.0_15 java.vendor=Apple Inc. BootLoader constants: OS=macosx, ARCH=x86, WS=carbon, NL=en_US Command-line arguments: -os macosx -ws carbon -arch x86 -clean -clean
Q: Should the WS=carbon be changed to WS=cocoa?
Q: And if so, where is this done?
Thanks
JohnMemberI have always been pleased with MyEclipse IDE (I have even blogged about it in the past).
Perhaps, it is because we are under the gun on a project at the moment and this issue is a real SHOW-STOPPER.
Does anyone at MyEclipse work outside of the normal business hours or respond to these forum messages?
Is there a customer support line?
Not sure what more information I can provide.
JohnMemberPerhaps this is the wrong part of the forum to place this issue. I guess I’ll have to begin flooding the forum.
JohnMemberPerhaps this is the wrong part of the forum to place this issue. I guess I’ll have to begin flooding the forum.
mossbargerMemberI am having the same difficulty but I am able to get Tomcat going manually by running startup.sh in the tomcat/bin directory until genuitec gets this figured out. hope that helps.
JohnMembermossbarger, thanks for the response.
I can also run from the command-line. So Tomcat seems to be fine. It seems to be related to the MyEclipse system.
Thanks again
support-eugeneMemberThis seems to be SL-specific problem. We have several reports like yours but I haven’t yet migrated to SL.
Is there anything in the server Console view when starting server? Please check Tomcat JDK preference page.
Also – can you debug regular Java application?
dstemmParticipantI’m getting the exact same issue with Tomcat 6.0 as well as JBoss 4.02. It doesn’t want to launch either one from inside MyEclipse. I did a full uninstall and re-installed the latest MyEclipse and still doesn’t work.
Also, I’ve lost the connection to my cvs server:
Problems reported while synchronizing CVS Workspace. 0 of 1 resources were synchronized.
An error occurred synchronizing /MyProject: Could not connect to :pserver:<my cvs server>/home/CVS: Socket Exception: Invalid argument
Could not connect to :pserver:<my cvs server>/home/CVS: Socket Exception: Invalid argument
Invalid argumentNote that everything works fine until AFTER I create a Web Project, meaning I can run Tomcat, JBoss and connect to my cvs server, but once I create a new Web Project and download some code from cvs, everything breaks.
JohnMemberdstemm,
I am also seeing the CVS issue you see.
mossbargerMemberThere is nothing in the server console window when trying to start or if I manually start tomact from shell.
support-eugeneMemberIs there anything in console view like the one on the screenshot?
