I am using a very clean install of eclipse 2.11, easystruts and myeclipseide on Linux using sun jdk 1.4.2. I am finding that the start button doesn’t seems to start tomcat correctly.

I mean by correctly that while you have messages in the console window, the server cannot be connected to from the browser. It also cannot be stopped using the stop function but must be terminated.

This seems to happen a significant proportion of the time somewhere about the 30-40% mark.

I have done complete installs and tried different JDKs but it hasn’t really stopped the problem.

Intermittent problems like this are tough to diagnose for obvious reasons. Are there any errors in the Eclipse log file (<workspace>/.metadata/.log)? There have been reports that the Eclipse 2.1.1 debugger doesn’t work perfectly with JDK 1.4.2, but this may or may not be related.
