I applied the latest quickfix to 3.8.2. I was getting out of memory error when refactoring. The memory problem was fixed with the quickfix but now I have no taskbar icon or frame icon in eclipse. However I still get the splash screen. This is annoying because I typically have 12 + applications open on the taskbar. Is there a way to get the eclipse icon back?

Well this is definately strange… if you go and navigate to eclipse.exe on your hard drive does it show an icon? If you find your shortcut for Eclipe and edit it, does the icon show? The quickfix has nothing to do with Eclipse, the executable or its icons so I think it is only a red herring… unless you applied the quickfix in such a way as to bork your Eclipse install. HOw did you apply it?

The eclipse.exe shows the icon as well as the shortcut. If I try to edit the shortcut (change icon) I can see the eclipse icon. When eclipse is starting, I get the splashscreen and the icon in the taskbar. But when eclipse comes up and the splash goes away, the icon in the taskbar goes to a generic white box w/blue upper border. As far as installing the fix, I unzipped it to the MyEclipse install dir (C:\program files\myeclipse)

After some hunting it seems to be an Eclipse bug: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=68686
