    Hallo,

I have to transcode several files from one codepage encoding to another codepage encoding from several types of text-files (e.g. from ISO-8859-15 to UTF-8 or ASCII to UTF-16 etc.). It would be nice to have such a little feature integrated in MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench. Furthermore it would be superb being able to run a mass conversion of text file encodings when selecting multiple files / folders within the Package-Explorer/Navigator-view. Unfortunately I do not know such an eclipse-plugin yet.

    Best regards,

Christian, interesting request. Is your team internationalizing an application or just trying to normalize an existing project on a single encoding?

Thanks. At first I couldn’t believe that I’m the first person with such a feature request.

    To answer your question:
Well, normalization as well as internationalization.
Initially we had the ambition to normalize existing ones to consistently develop and use files with just one encoding. Our consultants have problems in handling files of one project with different encodings understandably, tightened by using editors not able to transparently handle file encodings.
Meanwhile we also have the need to support additonal characters not available in the currently used encodings because of internationalization aspects.

Yesterday I had to change the encoding of 20 (bad coded…) html files. Using the File > Set encoding is not very user friendly without any way to do mass changes !

    Hallo wismax,

I think you mean the option to choose the encoding in the file-preferences-page. Unfortunately this is only the encoding in which the file-content has to displayed within the editor. A transformation is not done by Eclipse and you have to manually correct special characters not being displayed correctly when the encoding-setting has been changed.
