Eric RizzoMemberI’ve installed MyEclipse 5.1.0 into an existing Eclipse 3.2.1 installation (Windows XP). This is a new machine where MyEclipse has never been installed before.
MyEclipse keeps complaining that the trial subscription has expired, even though I just installed today. There is nothing unusual about my system clock settings, as far as I can tell. I’m pretty sure the system is using the default Grgorian Calendar (I never changed it). What can I do to activate the trial subscription?
Eric RizzoMemberBy the way, I tried sending a message to the subscriptions email address, but only received an automated response with typical trouble-shooting hints.
Scott AndersonParticipantCan you try one other thing? How about installing the new 5.5M1 “All-in-one” installer on that machine. Did the trial work properly with that? Or, since you’ve been a member since 2004, did you try just entering your subscription code instead?

I can try the All-in-one, but even if it works it won’t help me that much – I have an extensive existing Eclipse workspace that I need to try the MyEclipse features on and setting up a new install with my preferences, projects, etc. is not something I have time to do right now.
I used to have a paid subscription, but it expired in 2005. I am re-evaluating the product now to see if I want to resume my subscription.

That’s why I suggested the 5.5M1 all-in-one installer: it grants a new trial to everyone because we want everyont to try the new SNAPs, etc. So, you can simply install the new version, open your existing workspace, and begin working. No additional setup is needed to try out the new features.
Eric RizzoMemberIs MyEclipse going to make any changes to my workspace that will make it incompatible with “plain-old” Eclipse (3.2.1)? I know that upgrading Eclipse means the workspace is no longer compatible with earlier versions – I have to avoid that situation in my evaluation of MyEclipse.
Scott AndersonParticipantWhen you create MyEclipse projects or configure it, preference settings are added and a few things like that. They’re not “incompatible”, but they won’t mean anything without MyEclipse installed. What I’d suggest, just to be certain you don’t have any problems, is simply to copy your workspace directory and test MyEclipse on a copy. Or, create a zip of the current workspace to back it up while you try 5.5M1 if you’re worried about that. Better safe. 🙂

Yes, that worked. I will evaluate based on 5.5M1, but can you tell me the planned release schedule for 5.5?

Glad to hear it. We plan on shipping 5.5M2 at the end of the month followed by 5.5GA in April at this point. However, we’ll continue to do our best with each release to ensure that there are no regression issues.
